PLEASE!! Thanks My Best C.J. Dear Arts Committee members, C~ d ~b M a ~'r tin 1s C~'~+, f6~ As you near the time to make a final decision on the sculpture and the artist for the Split Corridor project, I wanted to take a minute and write a few final thoughts. First and foremost, as an artist the most important objective to a successful project is to make sure that you find a work of art that exceeds all your expectations for your project. This being said, I am always open to things we can do to adjust or tweak a design so that it accomplishes this. While I was designing "Under the Sun and Dreaming" I had a strong feeling that the North site does not present the best viewpoint or background for a second work of art. However if the committee would rather have two works in the Split Corridor project rather then just the one I can adjust a few things to make that possible. If this is the desire of the committee, we can fabricate the legs and the two larger horizontal fortes of the "Under the Sun and Dreaming" out of mild steel instead of stainless steel and paint them any color of your choice. The material cost difference would allow me to finance and fabricate the second sculpture the "Star of the West" for installation at the North site. I did not present it this way because I feel that a work like "Under the Sun and Dreaming" of it's timeless nature is best executed in a timeless material such as stainless steel. The only color that has stood the test of time in public art is red and I personally loved the sculpture in all stainless steel. Also as you make your decision, please don't over look or under estimate the importance of experience on a project this size! This is a very public project with a substantial budget that will truly set the tone for all future art projects in Meridian. I have placed over eighteen public sculptures in nine different states and currently under contract for four more to be completed and installed in 2013. I have extensive experience working with CAD programs, material suppliers, engineers, structural design, structural blue prints, foundation design, concrete work, mounting methods, trucking companies, crane operators, obtaining permits, understanding budgets and all costs, project management skills, but most importantly the actual fabrication of large-scale works. All of these skills and more will be needed to fabricate and install your artwork to make your project a success. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to be part of the group of finalists for your project, I am excited about the possibilities of having a piece of my art in the Treasure Valley where my family and I have so much history.
