Re: Proposed Tarawood Sub Signs CC:

Dear Frank,
I'm in receipt of your November 7, 2001 letter and sign permit application. The proposed sign
type, height and size comply w~h City code. I think the wrought iron signs with cast bronze
letters will be a classy addition and feature to Tarawood Sub.
The only concern I have is the locations of sign #1 and #2. City Ordinance 11-14-6 prohibits
signs within public rights-of-way. The 5-foot landscape strip befirveen the curb and sidewalk is
within ACHD's public right~of-way. From an aesthetic and design perspective, I don't have an
issue with these two signs and I understand the need to differentiate Tarawood from Los
Alamitos on the north side. However, my hands are tied due to Ordinance 11-14-6. If you can
obtain permission from ACHD (either through their License Agr ment process or some
other formal written approval) and submit said approval to the City demonstrating you have
permission to erect the sign in the public right-of-way, we can approve these locations.
Otherwise, the signs must be erected on private property.
The location of Sign #3 is approved as it is within a common lot owned by the Tarawood
HOA.
I will wait to hear back from you on your decision on this matter. At that time, I will forward the
application to the Building Department to issue the sign permit for you.
Sincerely, I
Brad Hawkins~Clark

Re: Tarawood Subdivision Entrance Signs
Dear Brad:
Enclosed are the following:
1. Commercial Sign Permit Application;
2. Drawing of proposed signs; and,
TELEPHONE (20S) 336-1020
FACSIlIIII.E (20 S) 336-1027
3. Plat of Tarawood showing location of three signs
with red x's for location of signs.
I propose to install three wrought iron signs at the three
entrances to Tarawood Subdivision as follows:
1. The text of the sign shall be Tarawood with the
letter "T" at 6 1/2 inches high and the remaining
"arawood" at 5 inches hig::.
2. The overall size of the sign shall be 6 foot
high with the actual sign being 40 inches
wide and 22 inches high.
3. The posts are 4 inch wrought iron imbedded in
concrete. The sign itself shall be metal.
4. Colors: The sign shall be painted black to match
the wrought iron fence, but the lettering shall be
cast bronze letters in the style shown on the
drawing and installed by Signs by Smith, 375-2750.

4. Location: See enclosed plat for locations of
signs. Sign No. 1 shall be installed in the 5
foot landscaping area between the sidewalk and the
curb. This is provided for in the CCR's.
Sign No. 2 may or may not be installed in the
5 foot landscaping area because of the transition
from Tarawood sidewalks to the adjoining
subdivision sidewalks which are conhect:ed to the
curb. If this cannot be located in the landscape
area at the northern boundary of the subdivision,
it will be installed either (1) in the northern 5
foot easement area for utilities to the west of
the sidewalk for that particular lot or, (2) in
the landscape area between lots 10 and 11.
Sign No. 3 shall be installed in the 5 foot
landscaping area in line with the wrought iron
fence of the 9 Mile Drain.
Please note, there does not appear to be any intersections
near any of these signs that would block access to a crossing
street.
Would you please inform me of your decision on these signs
as soon as possible. I would like to install them upon approval
from the City.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.
