BY THE CITY COUNCIL: BIRD, HOAGLUN, ROUNTREE, ZAREMBA
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 1, CHAPTER 7, SECTION 1, OF THE
MERIDIAN CITY CODE, REGARDING THE NUMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL
SEATS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS; on May 21, 2013 the citizens of Meridian voted to increase the number of Cit

Council seats from four (4) to six (6); and
WHEREAS; the Ada County Clerk has certified the votes and affirmed that 582 votes were in
the affirmative for expansion and 428 votes were opposed; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MERIDIAN, IDAHO:

CITY COUNCIL
1-7-1: ELECTION; TERMS OF OFFICE:
A. e-Three Council Members Elected At Each Election: At each election hereafter, there shall
be elected ~~~-(three 3 council members for a term of four (4) years, or until his or her
successor is elected and qualified from the electorate at large.
B. Council Seats:
. Pursuant to subsection A of this section, ~~~-(}three 3 council members are elected at each
election for a term of four (4) years and thus there are ~~~six 6 council seats on the cit

council; from and hereafter, each council seat shall be numbered, as allowed by Idaho Code
section 50-707, and the city clerk shall assign the following numbers to each seat: seat 1, seat 2
seat 3, seat 4, seat 5, and Seat 6.
2. Any candidate seeking election to the city council shall file his candidacy for one, and onl one

council seat. The candidate shall meet all other qualifications for the office of city council
member, as required by law.
General city elections shall #~-be
held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November in odd numbered ears.
The 2013 election c cle shall be the time to ex and the Cit Council from four 4 seats to six
6 seats therefore Seat Six 6 shall be elected to a four ear seat and Seat Five 5 shall be
elected to a two year seat. Thereafter Seats 1, 3, and 5 shall be elected in the 2015 election cycle
to four year seats and so forth. Henceforth, the odd numbered council seats and the even
numbered council seats shall be elected in alternate general city elections in the same rotation
perio .
Section 2. That this ordinance shall be effective upon publication.
