We wanted may no longer display g to make mention of how we know him and what are thoughts are regarding the situation. We moved into the home direct) to the East of Mr. Lee White in March 2011. It didn't take long for Mr. to extend us a gracious warm welcome to.the neighborhood. Over the past year we have White enjoyed getting to know him. He is a pleasant and kind man who enjoys helping others. JY g g A good example of his character was this past spring. We were attempting to till up ground for a garden. From rom across the wayMr. White was watching and took notice that I was having trouble filer to work the round effectively. He came right over to see if I needed any help. We getting the t g both agreed the tiller I was usingwas simply not powerful enough to effectively work the ground. So he went andg of his tiller and used it on my garden for a couple rows to show me what a more powerful tiller could do. Because I had already spent the money on renting a tiller, Mr. Lee offered to let me use job. e his to finish the He is always willing to lend a helping hand whenever we need something. Mr. White can often be found working in his, garage on a variety of projects. He enjoys refurbishing things he rescues from salvage. Generally, he displays these fixed up items in front of his fence facing thedriveway/alley. drivewa /aIle . Common examples you would find are a child's bicycle, garden tools, or even firewood. He offers these items at a fair and reasonable prince. It is unfortunate that someone found this practice unacceptable and filed a complaint with the city. He. generally p II keeps this south fence line area neat and orderly. It has never appeared junky or trashy. Based on his track record we have no problems with him refurbishing, displaying and ultimately selling these items like he has done in the past. We hope will strongly consider his appeal and grant him the opportunity to continue doing his you g Y neighborhood friendly good deeds. He pp su lies a valuable service to Meridian residents by repairing, renewing and recycling household items. He has done this for years and has a loyal following. If he did not supply this service man items that can enjoy a new life would be trashed and deposited pp y y into our already full landfills. Mr. White's workshop sits off the main road and is not prominently visible from 10 Mile Road. His shop is not an eyesore and is contained in and around --his garage. Additionally, he shares an access with Walgreens which generates vast volumes of traffic at the same point as Mr. Whites service. Compared to Mr. Whites few neighbor visits per day and Walgreens thousands; his impact is negligible. p . 10 Mile Road is a major arterial road for traffic in Meridian. Business is conducted all along 10 Mile Road. As the city grows business v'olume will increase as well. To deny Mr. White his service while next door to him sits a high volume retail business makes no sense. Closing Mr. White's service will eliminate his services completely to the community. As you are aware, Mr. White is a senior citizen. I am certain he will not relocate his service to another location if you shut his doors. Your actions regarding this zoning could destroy a service that many Meridian citizens take advantage of and eliminate Mr. White's hobby of repair work. Please allow Mr. White to continue his hobby/services to the Meridian community. We live reasonably close* to Mr. WNte and therefore drive past his home (in both directions) multiple times each day. Vlje find nothing objectionable, -unsightly, or hazardous about the display, or the manner in which someone would stop at the location to inquu'e about an item. There is no interference of public streets or sidewalks. Therefore creates no safety issue. e_a ein iectign As to the issue,-Qf%..ssf - i li—Is. ppefat a,us-0 -0 , -mg, -, It is quite common to drive down many streets within the city and find ongoing advertising for items,, for sale,, out of the home ie. weight less products, scicntsy dealers, lawn clean-up and hauling, and handy man services to name just. a few. Do you 'dy believe these are all city licensed businesses`? Would these not also fall under the category of a continuous yard sale? What about those who set appliances outside in front of there garage with a FOR SALE sign on then for months on end until they are sold? Speaking to that issue. We are ftequent Warage sabers ourselves. Let us bring to your attention. that with a little investigating... You - will find there are several location m- Meridian where the same people have an ongoing . g garage sale every w-- eek (from siring to -fall). In conclusion,, as we have .stated, we find no reason the city should object to, or refuse, permission for Mr. White to continue with his hobby of displaying, and maybe selling, his own personal property. Vie also believe the city has a duty to protect the -rights of it's citizens to pursue hobbies which cause no harm to society and has an obligation to the wise use of it's time and resources to benefit the citizens rather than -finding -nitpicking ways to intrude into those harmless activities TIN 4.
