As we expand, another teacher and teaching assistant will be hired to accomodate additional students. Let me know if this works, or if I need to add any additional information. Thank you! Colette Culp Msg sent via CableONE.net MyMail - http://www.cableone.net 7/22/2010 BUSINESS PLAN Bright Start Preschool 2250 N Meridian Road July 1, 2010 Executive Summary Mission Statement At Bright Start Preschool we believe that each child is unique in personality and learning style. We provide a nurturing and stimulating setting that allows for children to be themselves and grow emotionally as well as cognitively. They will gain independence and self confidence as we strive to inspire bright minds to become lifelong learners. The Company Bright Start Preschool was founded by partners, Colette Brown-Culp and Heidi Limbach and will be managed by both partners. Colette Brown-Culp previously owned and operated an in-home preschool under the name, Small Steps Preschool. In order to serve the growing need for preschool facilities in the Treasure Valley, Colette and Heidi have partnered together to expand Small Steps Preschool moving it to a larger location under a new business name. A new location was secured as of June 29, 2010. Remodeling and renovations will begin immediately. Finances to support the start up costs will be obtained immediately. A Conditional Use permit has been applied for through the City of Meridian and is being processed. A targeted marketing campaign will be implemented immediately. Bright Start Preschool will serve a total of 40 students the first year in operation and expand to serving a maximum of 96 students by fall of 2011. Bright Start Preschool will open for business September 1, 2010. The Product Bright Start Preschool will offer preschool classes to area 3-5 year old children, with a developmentally appropriate curriculum that provides a wide variety of educational and fun experiences. Bright Start Preschool will apply to hold exclusive rights to use the business name "Bright Start Preschool". The Market Bright Start Preschool will target young families in the city of Meridian and surrounding areas as we begin marketing. We have a good advantage being centerally located in the heart of Meridian with easy access and ample parking with a circular drive for drop off of students. We have begun enrolling students with a total of seven prior to beginning our marketing strategy. With a current market analysis, Bright Start Preschool should be able to fill to capacity with target marketing in place. After careful research of the local competition, our monthly tuition rates were set to be competitive with surrounding preschools, not being the lowest or highest monthly amount. Bright Start Preschool will need an average monthly revenue of $1500 to break even. A variety of different advertisement techniques will be used in order to help grow its standing in the market place. The Competition While there are other Preschools near Bright Start Preschool, we remain competitive in price and offer low child/teacher ratios as well as a more home like environment than other area preschools. Most preschools in this area do not have certified teachers as Bright Start Preschool will offer. Most preschools in the area are church based preschools. There is a large market in this area for non-religious affiliated preschool facilities. Operations Bright Start Preschool offers a variety of class times to suit each families needs. In our first year of business we will start out by offering five preschool classes of 8 students, and expand to a possible 16 preschool classes of eight by fall of 2011. Expansion would require an increase in demand for enrollment and the hiring of another preschool teacher and assistant. Each preschool class will follow a structured time schedule. The home in which we will operate from has ample space. The home consists of a possibility of three separate classrooms, a large play azea, a bathroom, a kitchen, a snack azea, and anoffice/teacher preparation room. We will begin the 2010 school year with one part time employee as a teaching assistant, and the owners, Colette Culp and Heidi Limbach as preschool teachers. As we expand in the year 2011, we will hire an additional preschool teacher and teaching assistant. Bright start preschool requires very little in the form of daily supplies except for ready-made snacks and paper for copying worksheets. Arts and craft supplies will be purchased mainly from the Dollar Tree and Oriental Trading Company. Snack supplies and materials will be purchased from Costco using our business membership. Classroom supplies will be purchased next door at the Curriculum Cottage, or from Idaho Book and School Supply. Capital Requirements Plan An estimated total of $5,134.00 will be required to begin this business venture. The owners, Colette Culp and Heidi Limbach will contribute a total of $5,134.00 to cover these costs. Capital contributed by the owners will be considered 'capital contributions' and will not be repaid. Any other debt obligations related to this venture will be repaid within two years by taking appropriate monthly payments from any revenue gains prior to the owner's monthly income amount. Owners Colette Culp and Heidi Limbach would like to purchase a home within two years in which to permanently operate the business. Capital required for this expansion of the business would require a total of $150,000 to $200,000 dollars. Repayment of the mortgage loan would occur with monthly payments by the owners. Business Plan -Bright Start Preschool Mission Statement At Bright Start Preschool we believe that each child is unique in personality and learning style. We provide a nurturing and stimulating setting that allows for children to be themselves and grow emotionally as well as cognitively. They will gain independence and self confidence as we strive to inspire bright minds to become lifelong learners. The Comnany Company History Bright Start Preschool is an expansion of Colette Brown-Culp's in home preschool in operation since 2007 under the name of Small Steps Preschool. Colette Brown-Culp and Heidi Limbach are joining together in a partnership to expand this business to serve the growing need for preschool facilities in the Treasure Valley area. The business concept has been developed over a period of four months by several business associates having many years experience in the preschool and childcare industry. Company Goals and Objectives Bright Start Preschool intends to open for business by September 1, 2010 and will implement a targeted advertising campaign immediately. The preschool will enroll a total of 40 students for the first year of operation. By fall of 2011 Bright Start Preschool will continue to expand enrolling a maximum of 96 students. With this expansion we anticipate a gross revenue increase of at least 60% after the first year in business. Company Ownership Structure Bright Start Preschool is owned by Colette Brown-Culp and Heidi Limbach as a general partnership. Company Management Structure Bright Start Preschool is managed by a team of two individuals consisting of the ownership partners, Colette Brown-Culp and Heidi Limbach. Both partners participate in managing the Preschool. Management and Ownership Background Colette Brown-Culp is one of the founding owners of Bright Start Preschool. Colette has over 20 years experience in the childcare and preschool business. Colette is currently enrolled as a student at the University of Phoenix in the Elementary Education program and expects to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree by the year 2012. Colette Brown-Culp has owned and operated her own childcare/preschool business since the year 2004. Heidi Limbach is one of the founding owners of Bright Start Preschool. She then obtained a Master's Degree in Curriculum Development from National University in 1999. The Product The Product Bright Start Preschool will offer preschool services to area 3-5 year old children with a developmentally appropriate curriculum that provides a wide variety of educational and fun experiences. Product Patents Bright Start Preschool will apply to hold exclusive rights to use the business name "Bright Start Preschool". Marketing Plan The Target Market The tazget market for Bright Start Preschool is young families living in the city of Meridian and surrounding areas that wish for their child to receive a structured preschool experience. Location Analysis The location for Bright Start Preschool is centerally located in the heart of the city of Meridian, Idaho. The property has ample parking as well as a circulaz drive through to make drop off and pick up of students run smoothly. Established Customers At the current time, Bright Start Preschool has a total of seven students enrolled for the yeaz 2010. Although this existing customer base is small, mazket analysis indicated Bright Start Preschool should reach full capacity through target mazketing. Pricing After careful research of the local competition's monthly tuition rates, we set our tuition rates competitively, not being the lowest or the highest. Bright Start Preschool will need an average monthly revenue of $2000 to break even. Tuition rates are set as follows for the 2010-2011 school year: M-W-F 3 and 4 year old classes- $135.00 monthly with a $75.00 registration fee T-Th 3 year old classes- $90.00 monthly with a $75.00 registration fee With all classes filled for the school yeaz 2010-2011, a monthly gross revenue of $5,040 will occur. A total of $3,000 will be collected in non-refundable registration fees. Advertising Bright Start Preschool will use a variety of different advertising techniques in order to help grow its standing in the mazketplace. We will advertise using Craigslist, flyers, newspaper ads, advertisements in local family magazines, property signage, theater advertisements, and referrals from existing clients. Comaetitor Analysis The Competitors Bright Start Preschool's local competitors are: A Step Ahead Preschool King's Kids Challenger Friendship Celebration. Competitor Strategies A Step Ahead Preschool has just built a new facility that will also include full day childcare. They are quite a bit more costly than Bright Start Preschool. They cater to a different clientele. Many preschool clienteles prefer to have their child in a preschool only setting rather than in a daycaze facility. Kings Kids is a church based preschool with comparable pricing to Bright Start Preschool. They include bible teachings as part of their curriculum where as Bright Start Preschool is not religiously affiliated. Challenger is a private school that is located near our preschool. Challenger's tuition costs are comparatively higher than Bright Start Preschool. They have much larger classes in comparison. Friendship Celebration is another church based preschool. Their tuition rates are comparable to Bright Start Preschool. Again, bible teachings are included as a part of their curriculum; where as Bright Start Preschool is not religiously affiliated. SWOT Analysis (Strengths/Weaknesses/Opportunities/Threats) Strengths Bright Start Preschool has selected a location that is in the center of the heart of Meridian with quick and easy access for customers. We have many years of experience in the child care industry. Bright Start Preschool offers qualified, experienced teachers, including Heidi who is a Certified Elementary School teacher. We offer a class size of only 8 students, which are significantly, lower than most. Bright Start Preschool offers monthly field trips, which other facilities do not offer. Bright Start Preschool offers a small home-like environment rather than an institution type environment. Weaknesses We are a new business and our success will rely on heavy target marketing to fill our enrollment capacity. Bright Start Preschools success depends on providing a caring and supportive service. It will be imperative to retain quality staff. Bright Start Preschool will develop and maintain human resources policies designed to fmd and retain good staff. Opportunities 'The population of Meridian, Idaho continues to grow with many young families moving in. Meridian is a growing city with a wealth of opportunity for increased diversity and continued economic vitality. As one of the fastest growing cities in the United States and Idaho, Meridian is a perfect city in which to operate this preschool business. Meridian was also picked as one of the country's top 100 family communities in 2005. Threats Bright Start Preschool is at risk from other larger competitors moving into the local market. Bright Start Preschool must respond to this threat by building a loyal customer base by providing a quality service in a supportive and caring environment for its customers. Operations Daily Operations Bright Start Preschool will offer several different choices for preschool class times. The following is a list of class schedules: Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 9:15 am until 11:45 am 2 classes of 8 available Monday-Wednesday-Friday from 12:15 pm until 2:45 pm 2 classes of 8 available Tuesday-Thursday from 9:15 am until 11:45 pm 1 class of 8 available For the fa112011 class schedule we will add a new afternoon class on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 pm until 2:45 pm. We will expand to 2 classes of eight for all morning and afternoon classes. If the demand is high enough, a 3rd preschool class will be added to all of the above times in the fall of 2011, with an additional teacher and assistant hired. Students will be greeted as they arrive for class and be allowed to have free play time at activity stations until all students have arrived. When all students have arrived, the students will clean up and go to their classrooms. Preschool classes will begin with circle time for greetings, calendar, weather, pledge of allegiance and so forth. Following circle time, the number, letter, shape, color for the day will be introduced and appropriate activities done for 30 minutes. The students will then wash their hands, have snack, and free play time for 30 minutes. The students will then clean up and return to the classroom for the theme of the week and arts and crafts for the remaining class time of approximately 45 minutes. Parents will arrive and pick up children. Teachers will have a 30 minute lunch break prior to children arriving for the afternoon classes. The same schedule will apply to afternoon classes. The preschool will close at 3pm. Operational Facilities The home in which we will operate consists of three classrooms, a large play room, a kitchen, a snack area, one bathroom, and anoffice/teacher preparation room. The back yard will be fenced for an outside play area. There is ample outside parking and a circle drive through for convenient drop off and pick up of the children.
