Re: ZOA 10-001, Public Hearing-Amend of UDC -Portable Classrooms
Dear Mr. Parsons,
I am writing you as a concerned resident of Paramount Subdivision in regards to the
recent installation of the 2na portable classroom at Paramount Elementary. My concern
specifically is the lack of consideration in the architectural design, building material
composition and lighting and landscape criteria of this portable classroom. With the first
portable we as homeowners had to battle with the Meridian School district to paint and
bring the outside lighting up to standard. They tried to "skirt" the issue all together full
knowing that the 1 S` portable was not up to the design standards. This is not acceptable.
As homeowners of Paramount, we must follow specific landscape, architectural and
design guidelines of our homes (including sheds that I install on my property), laid out in
specificity, in the Paramount Architectural Design Standards and Construction
Guidelines. These guidelines are set in place to protect and enhance the community. As
it stands now this portable classroom does neither. Regardless of the fact that these
portable classrooms are considered "temporary" they should follow the same
architectural guidelines as I and every other homeowner in Paramount must follow. This
is especially true since these portable classrooms directly impact Paramount Subdivision
and the overall "look and feel" of the subdivision.
As a homeowner in Paramount Subdivision I am asking the following be added under
Section 4 Standards:
• The portable classroom shall be painted in a color complimentary to the
surrounding homes. (this has already been).
• The portable classroom shall have the same roof material (asphalt shingles)
of the homes surrounding the portable.
• The portable classroom exterior lighting shall comply with the City of Meridian
Design Standards.
One of the elements of the 2°d portable classroom that concerns me the most is the metal
roof. Metal roofs are not allowed under the Paramount Architectural Design Standards.
This roof reflects light and not only is blinding but is a driving hazard. You're
consideration in this matter is appreciated.
Sincerely ,
Whitney & Eric Wood
