I also served as the USTA Adult League Director for the state of Idaho4or three years. In this time I have watched the game of tennis in our community grow and prosper. I worked closely with Barbara Chandler who is the "Guru" of recreational tennis in Idaho and is well known in the Intermountain Section of the United States Tennis Association to which Idaho belongs. Having also personally grown up learning the sport of tennis on public courts and progressing through the City Parks & Recreation programs into High School, I believe I have a unique view of what a program and facility such as Ms. Jo Ann Kurz proposes could provide for the Meridian community and as I now reside in the town of Meridian I believe that particular Sport Facility and program would be an ideal addition to your Settler Park area. I have seen what a positive influence this sport can have on all types of young adults and know personally what a positive influence it can create toward a productive and healthy adult. Therefore it is with great pride that I write this letter of recommendation to you regarding Ms. Jo Ann Kurz and her abilities and accomplishments. When working with Jo Ann on the BRSC Board I found her to be an extremely courteous and knowledgeable professional who was always prepared with pertinent information and possible solutions for any problems we might have encountered. I consider her character and ethics above reproach. The success of BRSC in the last 14 years has been due mainly to Jo Ann's commitment and leadership skills. As we worked together I observed her expertise in the areas of budgeting, member satisfaction, facility planning and maintenance as well as daily operational function and future planning. The Treasure Valley area is considered a "model" for the Intermountain Section of the , United States Tennis Association and Jo Ann was very instrumental in enabling BRSC to win the National title of "Club of the Year" twice during her tenure. , Jo Ann maintained excellent tennis programming for adults and youth alike. She was also very successful in establishing a group of highly respected professional teaching pros and earned their respect and admiration. Her status in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) is impeccable. She has attained one of their highest levels .... that of a "Master Professional" with dedication and hard work. She is highly respected in her field and her credentials in the areas of tennis operations, youth development and management of club professionals is admired by all. Page 2 Jo Ann Kurz As Jo Ann steps into this new challenge I have no doubt that her knowledge and leadership skills will enable her to build a solid foundation and create a program and facility that any community would be envious of Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would want any additional information or discussion regarding this project or Ms. Kurz. Overall participation is up 12.2% since 2000 and there were 5.7 million new tennis players in 2007 alone. Evidence of this trend in Idaho was evidenced last summer with the success of your parks and recreation programs. Idaho ranks second in the entire Northwest region in the number of United States Tennis Association members. In fact. according to our demographics. the Cit}- of Meridian enjoys one of the highest tennis player to population ratios in the state of Idaho. Obviously. there is a direct relationship between increased participation and the demand for new facilities and programming. The Idaho Tennis Association is prepared to assist. We have community based programs that would not only occupy the new courts but also serve your constituents of all ages and ability levels -- leagues (competitive outlet for adults and children), Tennis 101 (a fun. family -friendly beginner program for children and adults), and after-school programs (designed to fight childhood obesity and provide tutoring programs). Further. we can provide training. equipment. and general support to your staff. Lastly. we are willing to assist you in publicly advocating this project to thousands of our tennis members. The City of Meridian is uniquely positioned to become the tennis epicenter of recreation due to its growth in population and local interest in terunis. The demographics are favorable. the tennis resources are available. the history of success is present. and interest is growing. Thank you fir your consideration and feel free to contact me should you wish to discuss. Sincerely. N,IatthexN C. Warren Iaecutive Director 1108 North Cole (toad Boise. I have had the honor and privilege of working with Jo Ann for the past 14 years in the tennis community of Idaho in my position as a former USA National Coach and as the Head Men's Tennis Coach for Boise State University. I consider myself so blessed to have had Jo Ann as a colleague, for she is undoubtedly one of the most gifted and respected leaders in the tennis profession in the Pacific Northwest and Idaho. I have utilized her expertise and guidance over the years for she bas been a creative and innovative visionary in building and growing tennis in Boise and Southern Idaho. Her accomplishments in tennis and at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club are many. She spearheaded and created countless programs and events. Her creativity and leadership in growing tennis through tournaments, community involvement, workshops, and clinics has been instrumental to the incredible growth of tennis in our state. She led the renovation of the Boise Racquet and Swim Club and the addition of four new state of the art indoor tennis courts. Most importantly her legacy will always be remembered for her Community Service in Tennis. In 1991 she was awarded the USTA Community - Service Award in Western Washington. Her growth in the sport evolved from an outstanding championship player to developing into a dynamic Teaching Tennis Professional and Administrator who has positively impacted hundreds of youngsters and adults in the Northwest in the sport of tennis. Her expertise in the National Teaching Community is well known. She is an elite Master USPTA Tennis Professional. She has been chosen to participate in the prestigious and elite USA High Performance Coaching Program for the outstanding tennis coaches in the United States. Due to her lengthy resume of accomplishments it is obvious why Jo Ann is recognized nationally as an influential leader, administrator, and teaching professional. Therefore I am happy to write this letter to you regarding the proposition of partnering with Jo Ann Kurz in this community center. I am the State of Idaho D.A.R.E. Coordinator and as such, oversee the officers and their training in regard to drug abuse and violence resistance education, commonly known as D.A.R.E. Although the Meridian/Boise area law enforcement and school districts do not currently participate in the D.A.R.E. program many other areas of the state realize the need. The D.A.R:E program addresses not only drug abuse resistance, bullying, cyber crimes and internet safety, but other types of violence resistance as well. Anytime we can partner with a community center or organization that is focusing on kids we are more than happy to participate. We would be very interested in being an active part of this after school program in any way that will help the kids and their families in the Meridian area. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would want any additional information or discussion regarding this project with Ms. Kurz. Sincerely, Larry V. McGhee Idaho D.A.R.E.
