MERIDIAN RD. MERIDIAN, IDAIIO 83646 May 14, 2009 To Whom this may concern: In March of two thousand eight I entered into contract with Matt Hartz to purchase this commercial property. I had lost my husband to cancer and was working and living in California. My children and grandchildren were in Idaho and by starting a business with my daughter not only would it provide a necessary income but allow the much needed accessibility to family. 1 many years ago had a hair salon for children and kept the equipment. Everything has an outdoor theme, the hydraulic chairs are like animals and much more. During visits we would explore the idea of a salon in Meridian. Much thought and preparation went into our plan. We sought out a realtorwe trusted and were comfortable with. Never having owned a commercial property, I relied extensively on his.expertise and professionalism. At times my daughterwould consult with him but mostly business was done over the phone and by e-mail. During the due diligence period 1 was assured by his inquiry with the city and requested Inspections that the building needed a few repairs, electrical updated and the parking lot addressed but no other concerns. Since the music shop for kids was moving next door and a preschool just down the road, a great location. Because I was out of state and neither my daughter nor I knew anything about getting permits etc., I was advised by my realtorto hire an architect I hired one in his building. Again very trusting and perhaps quite naive I paid him in full for a set of plans I wasn't able to use and nothing was everfiled with the city. The first we knew there was a problem was when the electrician went to pull his permit and my daughter the sign permit The architect from the very beginning assured us we were O.K. to go. His exact words were, "You don't need a building permit because you're not changing anything structurally, go in there and do what you need to. When you are ready to occupy for business, I'll walk you through the rest" Nothing was ever mentioned about, planning and zoning. He has since left the state and his license has lapsed. Needless to say it was quite a shock and disappointment when made aware at this late date that our property was not up to UDC standards and subsequently having to submit applications to bring into compliance. In spite of all the frustration and misinformation - I truly believe " 2 B A KID HOUSE" will be a great asset to Meridian. A fun salon like none other- just for kids. I'm very excited and eagerto open. I HAVE INVESTED EVERYTHING 1 HAVE BOTH EMOTIONALLY AND FINANCIALLY. I'm sure this narrative is not the norm but neither has been this entire process. Thank you so very much for your help and patience.
