Willard Rowley explained the Comprehensive Map and its details and noted there are

Don Sharp stated the Planning and Zoning has attempted to maximize community input.
This should be a true community plan. To facilitate this the Planning and Zoning
met with the Chamber of Commerce on commercial, industrial and traffic. In addition,
the industrial development cooperation was active. The Senior Citizens were
contacted, as well as the High School and 47 residents of the impact area were pre-
sent fora meeting. The Optimist Club, School Board, City Officials, Realty
Developers and Subdividers presented input, as well as Recreation and Ministerial
groups. A survey was sent to residents of the area. 532 returned their survey.
Annette Hinrichs presented the use of the plan. She stated the Comprehensive Plan
meets the requirements of law. Second, it lays out the policies of what the Planning
and Zoning is trying to do in the community. It is also an educational tool that
lets the people know what the Planning and Zoning are doing. It helps the Planning
and Zoning Commission coordinate the work with developers, other governmental units,
and helps in communication and understanding.
The goals of the Comprehensive Plan were read and explained.
Chairman Rowley stated the meeting would break up into groups;
Group 1: Industrial and Commercial, Chaired by Richard Williams
Group 2: Transportation, Chaired by Don Sharp
Group 3: Parks, Recreation and Open Space, Chaired by Burl Pipkin
Group 4: Public Service and Utilities, Chaired by Roger Welker and Gary Green
Group 5: Population, Land Use and Physical Enviorment, Chaired by Annette Hinrichs
Group 6: Housing, Chaired by Willard Rowley
The body broke up into work groups at 8:20.
