Special Meeting held at Meridian City Hall -Public Hearing to discuss a water
i~rov~ent project under consideration by the City. HUD Community Development
Block Grant Program.
The Special Meeting was called to order by Councilman Bill Brewer at 5:30 P.M.
Others Present: Wayne Forrey; Martha Berry; Elizabeth Ryan; Bruce Stuart; Coonrad Abas;
Penny Webb;
Councilm~vi Brewer explained the purpose of the Hearing was to take Public Testimony
concerning the water improvement project under consideration by the City. He explained
that the area of improvement will be concentrated in the King Street area, where there
is a great need for improvement. Councilman Brewer asked Wayne Forrey, J-U-B Engineers,
to explain about the grant.
Wayne Forrey, J-U-B Engineers, explained that the City had received a HUD Grant for
Sewer Rehabilition in the amount of $121,000.00. The sewer work has now been completed
with a balance of the grant monies remaining in the amount of $15,000.00 to $20,000.00.
The City would like to shift these remaining monies to a water improvement project.
The area of concentration would be King Street. 17 persons have already signed up
for the project. Forrey would like to file the amendment application, and start the
project around the 1st of August, campleting it in about 2 weeks.
Councilman Brewer called for any Public Com[nent.
Elizabeth Ryan: "There is a great need for this." "There is very low water pressure
on King Street." "One person I surveyed was packing water in her house in buckets to
her washing machine because of the low pressure." "I believe people really need
the water project."
Martha Berry: "I also believe there is a great need for this water project."
Councilman Brewer: "Is there any other public conccient?"
There was no response.
Brewer: "The Public Hearing is now closed." "The request for the amended grant
will be considered at the next City Council Feting, July 19, 19$2."
Feting adjorned at 5:36 P.M.
