DEPARTMENT REPORTS: • • MERIDIAN CITY COUNCIL JANUARY 19, 19$7 Regular Meeting of the Meridian City Council called to order by Mayor Grant Kingsford at 7:30 p.m.: Members Present: Bill Brewer, Ron Tolsma, Bert Myers, Bob Giesler: Others Present: Roy Porter, Kenny Bowers, Bob Mitich, Bob Wherry, Miriam Barr, Wayne Crookston, Jim Shearer, David Allen, Member of Scout Troop #190. Mayor Kingsford welcomed the member of Scout Troop #190: The Motion was made by Myers and seconded by Tolsma to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held January 5, 1987 as written: Motion Carried: All Yea: Mayor Kingsford read a Proclamation declaring the period January 21, 1987 through February 18, 1987, to be Help Stop Child Abuse Month. Item #1: Architects: New City Hall Project: Mayor Kingsford, are there any questions or comments from the Council Members,after•the review of the plans that was presented to you? There was no response. The Motion was made by Myers and seconded by Brewer that the Architects be authorized to request bids on the new City Ha11 Project, that the bid opening will be at 4:00 p.m. on February 26, 1987 at the Meridi~.n City Hall, that the City Clerk and the Architects will at that time publically open the bids. Bids will be taken_.under_advisement and a recommendation made to the Meridian City Council at the March 2, 19$7 City Council Meeting. Motion Carried: All Yea: Item #2: Approve the Audit Report: Mayor Kingsford, Council Members you have had this report for the last several days, do you have any comments? Myers, the only item I have a question on is the Revenue Sharing, has that been taken care of? Mayor Kingsford, the Revenue Sharing monies that we have left, were', budgeted for this Fiscal Year. The Motion was made by Myers and seconded by Tolsma that the Audit Report be approved and I think they did a very nice job on the Audit. Mayor Kingsford, I might comment here to the Members of the Council and the Public here that they did the Audit in a very timely fashion, were very professional and did not interupt the activities of City Hall, did a very good job according to the staff. MERIDIAN CITY COUNCIL •" ~ • JANUARY 19, 1987 PAGE # 2 Motion Carried: A11 Yea: Item #3: Resolution #110: Mayor Kingsford, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Meridian, IdaY~o providing for an adoption of the 1995 Meridian Func- tional Street Classification Map prepared by the State of Idaho Depr artment of Transportation with the Assistance of the Ada Planning Association, where it is in the best interest of the City of Meridian to adopt the map, Be it resolved by the Mayor and Council of the City of Meridian that the 1995 Meridian Functional Street Classifi- cation Map be adopted. The Motion was made by Brewer and seconded by Giesler that Resolution #110 be approved . Motion Carried: All Yea: Department Reports: Giesler, I was wondering how we were coming on the Greenleaf Academy traffic situation.. Chief Porter, they submitted the concept plan which was distributed to all the Council Members and the City Engineer was working with Ada Planning to have a traffic count done on Fairview. Giesler, the only other thing is I would like to thank our Police Department and Ada County for their handling of something that could have been very serious into something that was minor. It was handled very professionally.and I would like to congradulate both of them. Being no further business to come before the Council the Motion was made by Myers and seconded by Brewer to adjourn at 7:37 p.m.: Motion Carried: All Yea: APPF.OVED GRANT KING5F0 , OR City Mayor ~l Council P & Commission Eng., Atty., Fire Police, Ward, Stuart Mitich, Kiebert,Hallett Valley News, Statesman ACHD,NIMD, CDH,ACC,ACZ File (2) Mail ( 2) DRAFT PROCLAMATION FOR HELP STOP CHILD ABUSE MONTH PROCLAMATION r: WHEREAS, the City of Meridian recognizes the growing concern re- garding crimes of abuse and neglect against children; and WHEREAS, in 1986, Idaho reported-8,055 cases of physical abuse and neglect including 1,412 cases of child sexual abuse, and WHEREAS, experienced police investigators, child protection workers and other concerned persons know of the terrible suffering that results from child abuse; and WHEREAS, in recognition of this significent problem, the Idaho Legislature passed the 1985 Idaho Children's Trust Act, which permits concerned citizens to donate a portion of their taxrefund to assist programs specif- ically designed to help solve this tragic problem; and WHEREAS, concerned and caring citizens must become aware of this growing epidemic, and must act to help stop all forms of child abuse; NOW THEREFORE, WE, The City Council of the City of Meridian do hereby pro- claim January 21st through February 18th, to be HELP STOP CHILD ABUSE MONTH and urge all citizens of our community to consider making a donation to this worthy cause and to take appropriate steps to end child abuse in our state.
