Re: 1Ve11 No. 7, bleridain, Idaho
D'NIG HT P DICK EL
CLAREN!E D. SVITCR
Gentlemen:
I am lariting on behalf of Dlayne Pump Company o£
Boise, Idaho relative to the hell No. 7 project of 1`Ieridian,
Idaho and further relative to your letter of April 23, 1974
directed to blr. Ben Drake of Ben Drake Construction, the
prime contractor on the referenced construction.
Although Mayne Pump Company was promised by its
supplier that all material required for the above-referenced
installation would be in their hands in time to complete in-
stallation by the hfay 3 contract date, t}iey have been informed
that the manufacture of the motor intended to drive the pump
has been delayed and it will not be available here for in-
stallation for 120 days from this date. This delay was caused
through no fault of Iwlayne Pump Company or Ben Drake Construction
Company, and the notification of the delay was only just
received. It is therefore necessary to request from the
City of Dleridian an extension of time, subject to the following
temporary installation, o~ 120 days to complete the final
and permanent installation of the well and pump project. In
the interim Mayne Pump Company has arranged to have a motor
installed in the pump that will be equal to, and in fact exceed,
the capacity of the permanent motor. This temporary installa-
tion cYill allow the City of i`icridian to use the pump as
intended during peak usage periods of this Spring and Summer
and kill not interrupt the intended use of the well and its
badly needed extra capacity. However, this replacement motor
to he used on the pump at R'ell No. 7 as an interim measure
until the permanent motor arrives had to be ordered from
Little Rock, Arkansas, the nearest point in the United States
where such a motor could be located. The shipment time from
Little Rock, Arkansas to Meridian, Idaho is expected to be
14 days. Alloxaing two additional days for preparation and
loading for shipment at Little Rock, and three additional days

-after arrival for installation, it is then necessary to request
a 20 day extention from the May 3 contract completion date`
before 1Ve11 No. 7 iaill be in operation. Every way of expedit-
ing the shipment of this temporary motor to Meridian from Little
Rock has been explored and employed, and although Mayne Pump
Company fully expects the motor to arrive and installation to
be complete prior to the expiration of the requested 20 days,
nevertheless to allow for contingencies, they hereby request
of you an extention of time in the amount of 20 days from the
contract completion date of May 3.
Mayne Pump Company sincerely regrets this delay and
wishes to assure the City of Meridian that the delay has been
caused by factors beyond the control o£ Mayne Pump Compan y.
In this case it is simply a matter of Mayne Pump Company's
relying on its supplier to its detriment, and therefore it is
necessary for .the Mayne Pump Company to earnestly implore
the city council of Deridian to grant its request for the
requested 20 day extention to place the temporary pump and
motor in operation at the tiaell site, and the 120 day extention
from blay 3 for the installation and. operation of the permanent
equipment.
Your favorable action on b4ayne Pump Campany's request
for the indicated extentions will be deeply appreciated and
your early notification of your decision is requested.
V ~~ truly yours,
n~---, ~- ~1~
