ORDINANCE NO. 501 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 2-201 OF THE REVISED AN.D COMPILED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN AND RE-ENACTING SAID ORDINANCE TO ADOPT THE 1988 VERSION OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE AND SOME OF THE APPENDIXES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council and the Mayor of the City of Meridian, Idaho, have concluded that it is in the best interest of said City to repeal Section 2-201 of the Revised and Compiled Ordinances of the City of Meridian and to adopt the 1988 version of the Uniform Building Code and some of the appendixes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and the City Council of the City of Meridian, Ada County, Idaho: Section 1. That Section 2-201 of the Revised and Compiled Ordinances of the City of Meridian is hereby repealed. 1`0 9 Section 2. That Section 2-201 of the Revised and Compiled Ordinances of the City of Meridian is hereby re-enacted which shall read as follows: 2-201: ADOPTION OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE AND THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE BOOR OF::STANDARDS: There is hereby adopted by the City for the purposes of establishing rules and regulations for the construction, alteration, removal, demolition, equipment, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of buildings and structures, including permits and penalties, that certain building code known as the Uniform Building Code, 1988 Edition and Appendix 7, Covered Mall Buildings and Appendix 32, Re-Roofing, and Appendix 49, Patio Covers of the Uniform Building Code, of which not less than three (3) copies have been and now are filed in the office of the City Clerk, and the same are hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set forth out at length herein, and from the date on which this Section shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall be controlling over the construction of all buildings and other structures therein contained within the corporate limits of the City. There is also hereby adopted the Uniform Building Code Book of Standards, three (3) copies of which have been and now are filed in the office of the City Clerk; provided, however, that the following exceptions shall apply to the Uniform Building Code Book of Standards: Regardless of the provisions of the Uniform Building Code Book of Standards, the City shall not allow gravel to be used for foundations in the construction of any building within the City, and regardless of any of the provisions of the Uniform Building Code, particularly footings, section 2907 (a) General, or of the Uniform Building Code Book of Standards, the City shall not allow wood, treated or otherwise, to be used for footings or foundations. Section 3: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval as required by law.
