AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SD;TION 8-606 OF THE REVISED AND COMPILED ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF MERIDIAN, ADA COUNTY, IDAHO, DEALING \lITH SEIZING, IMPOUNDING, AND
DISPOSING OF OOGS BY CHIEF OF POLICE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE crTY OF MERIDIAN, ADA COUNTY

Section 1: That Section 8-606 of the Revised and CompUed Orctl.nances of the
City of Meridian, is hereby amended to read as follows:
8-606: SEIZING, IMPOUNDING, AND DISPOSING OF DOGS BY CHIEF OF POLICE: It shall
be the duty of the Chief of Police to issue citations to the owners or keepers of
any and all dogs running at large within the limits of the City without collars
bearing license tags provided by Section 8-602 of this Code, whether ",earing col-
lars w.i.th license tags attached 81' ,whether such dogs so running ,at large are owned
or harbored by any person residing wi thin the City Limits or elsewhere; provided,
that when~a dog wearing a collar bearing licen,se tag of the 'Preceding year is
taken up, the Chief of Police shall notify the owner or the representative of the
owner_ if owner or such representative can be found.. The Chief o,f Police _shall I
impound and _seize any and all dogs he deems necessary. The owner or representa-
ti ve of the owner of any dog which may be talten and iJDpounded by the Chief of
Police under the provisions of this Section, may recover possession of sUch dog
upon payment to the Chief of Police of a fee of seven doll~ars fifty cents'(J7.50). ~.
If the OWDer or representative of the owner of an:l dog taken up and impounded by
the Chief of Police under the provisions of :this Section shall fail to pay the
license fee on such dog and the fee of Beven dollars fifty cents (7.50) to the Chief
of Police within forty eight (48) hours after such dog shall be taken up and 1m-
pounded, the Chief of Police may dispose of such dog; first, by delivering such dog
to any person who will pay the 1icense fee to the Clerk and the fee of seven dollars
fifty cents (17.50) to the Chief of Police, if such person desires to keep such dog
within the limits of the City; or, upon payment of the fee of seven dollars fifty
cents ($7.50) to the Chief of Police, if such person desires to keep such dog with-
out the limits of the City; secondly, by killing and properly burying such dog in
80me suitable place outside the City Limits.
It shal.l be unlawful for any person or persoDS to hinder or molest'any person or
persons who may be engaged in seizing or killing any dog or removing the -oarcass
of suoh dog in conformity with the provisions of this Section.
Section 2. WHEREAS, there is an emergency therefor, which emergency is hereby
declared to exist, this Ordinance shall take effect and be in force and effect from
and after its 'Passage, approval and publication as required by law.
Passed by the City Council and approved by the Mayor of the City of Meridian,
Ada County, Idaho, this 28th day of October, 1975.
