ORDINANCE NO. 174
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIon 8-606 lEAtING WITH THE SEIZING, I}~OUNDING AND
DISPOSING OF DOGS BY CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF.MERIDIAN,ADA COUNTY, IDAHO.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MERIDIAN, ADA
COUNTY, IDAHO:_
Section 1. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police of the Ci t;yr of
Meridian to issue citations to the owners or keepers of any and all dogs running
at large within the limits of the City of l~ridian without collars bearing license
tags provided by Section 8-602 of the Ordinances of the City of Meridian, whether
wearing collars with license tags attached or whether such dogs so ~~nning at
large are owned or harbored by any person residing wi thin the City L1mi ts of the
City or elsewhere; provided, that when a dog wearing a collar bearing license I
tag of the preceding year is taken up, the Chief of Police shall notify the owner
or the representative of the owner if owner or_such representa.tive can be found.
Chief of Police shall impound and seize any and all dogs he deems necessary. The
owner or representative of the owner of any dog which may be taken and impounded .
by the Chief of Police under the provisions of this Section, IDay recover possession
of such dog upon payment to the Chief of Police of a fee of one dollar ($1.00).
If the owner or representative of the owner of any dog taken up and iIIqJounded by
the Chief of Police under the provisions of this ordinance shall fail to pay the
license fee on such do~ and the fee of one dollar ($1.00) to the Chief of Police
within forty-eight (48) hours after such dog shall be taken up and impounded, the~
Chief of Police may dispose of such dog; first, by delivering such dog to any
person who w,.ill pay the license fee to the City Clerk and the fee of one dollar
to the Chief of Police , if such person desires to keep such dog within the limits
of the City; or, upon payment 0 f the fee of one dollar ('1.00) to the Chief of
Police, if such person desires to keep such dog without the limits of the City;
secondly, by killing and properly burying such dog in some suitable place outside
the City Limits.
Section 2. It shall be unlawful for any person or persons to hinder or
molest any person or persons who rey be engaged in seizing or Jdlling any dog or
removing the carcass of such dog in conformity with the provisions of this ordinance.
Section 3. An emergency existing therefore, this ordinance shall become
effective from and after the date of its passage, approval and publication as re-
quired by law.
PASSED By the City Council and approved by the Mayor of the City of Meridian,
Ada County, Idaho, this 4th day of March, 1968.
