unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to engage in the
work or business of making gas instellatlons in Meiidian unless
such person or responsible person representing.the firm or C01'oor-
ation as hereinafter prescribed has successfully naBsed an exa~in-
ation conducted by the Board of Examiners and has-issued to him a
Certificate of Competency by said Board in accordance with nrovi-
sions of this Ordinance. -

ClassificatLms of competency as herein defined.
GAS FIT'I'I:,'G C ~)N'L'l{ACTOR. \Jho shall be an;' per-
son or firm skilled in the planning and supervision of the installa-
tion of Bas 'piping, venting and equipment, and l^lIlO is familiar T,vith
the laws, xules and regulations covering the saBe and who is con-
petent to aS8Wlle work on a contract basis and to direct the work of
qualifiod e.mployees. A Cas Fitting Contractor who in person does
gas fitting work shall also be c,lualified as a jouHlc'YJnen gas fit.ter.

who as part of his.principal occupation is engaged in the pr~ciical
instEl11ation of CBS piJ)ing Cind e:~uipment; and "vho is fa~i1iliar with

direction of a Gas Fitting Contractor.

is engaged in learning and assisting in the installation of gas
?iping and equip~ent. Apprentices shall not perform gas insiallation
work except under the supervision of a licensed journeyman gas
fitter.
LIC1!;NS:2:;3 n:U:.;,):JIHED. Before Elny ]8rSOn, firm or'
corporation shall carryon or engage in the work 8r b~siness of
making gas installations, he shall procure a license a9plicable
to the classification in which he proposes to w:rk and )~y the
anEual license f'2e im.posed on such classification. 'The license
shall not be transferable. 3very applicant for license shall
~resent a Certificate of Competency or other identification as
proof that h0 is entitled to or has been approved by the Soard
of Examiners as conp~tent for the calssification sought. If
the applicant be a partnership, form or corporation the applica-
tion shall be made by a bona fide member or agent ther-eof, who
shall at all times be in actual charge of the applicant's gas in-
st alIa t ion business. 'i{hen any person is designa t ed a.nd authorized
to be or act as an agent for the applicant, such authorization shall
be in writing, signed by the applicant and the person designated,
one copy of which shall be filed with the Examining Board and one
copy filed in t.he office of the City Engineer or the City Clerk.
LICENSE li'EES. Before any license is issued
the applicent shall )3Y to the City Clerk a license faB in accor-
dance with the following schedule:
Gas 'l~'itting Contractor'............... .;;,;25.00
Journeyman Gas Fitter................. 2.00
Apprentice Gas Eitter................. No fee
Cpon payment of the above fee and presentation of a valid Certi-
ficate of Co~wetency or other acceptable'identification as shall
be required for a Gas Fitting Contractor, JourneYBsn Gas ~itter;
or Appren~icejthe City Clerk shall issue a License Certificate,
indicating clearly thereon the name of the holder, classification
and year for whieR.it.is,valid.,
EXPIRNl'ION fIND HEliJ_2.'L'IL J}<-' :LICElijSES. Q-as Fit tar
licenses shall expire on the 31st of December each year unless
sooner revoked and shall be renewed not later than the following
15th of January upon payment of 05.00 for Gas Fitting Contractor
and $2.00 for Jaourneyman Gas Fitter.
HEVOCA'l'J::8N OF l,ICENSE. Any person or firm
hOlding a license shall not lend such license to any other person
or firm or allow any other person or firm to do gas installBtion
work under his license except licensed journeY':rlan in Ids em:qloy.
Violation of this provision shall be CBUse for revocation of
licenses in addition to other penalties provided hereafter.

the applicant's signature and license nUmbi:Jr, and the signature
of the Chairman of the Board of Exandners.
REVOCATION OF CERTIFICATE. A Certificate of
Competency may be revoked by the Board if it has good and sufficient
evidence that such certificate was obtained by fraud, or if the
holder demonstrat es lack of l(nowl edge or incOJayet ency in mat t ers
relevant to such certificate. In such cases the 30ard may order
re-examination, or may refuse application for re-examination as
conditions may dictate.
COMPENS.lI.TI()1IT Oli' BOARD j'J~.~iil.3__:ns. The members of
the Examining Board shall each receive from deridian as the only
compensation for iheir services the sum of ~5.00 for each Journey-
man Fitter examined.

The issuance or granting of B pernit or approval
of plans and'specifications shall not be deemed or construed to be
a permit for, or an ap~roval of, any violation of any provisions
of this Ordinance. No permit presuLning to give author-ity to vio-
late or cancel the Drovisions of this Ordinance shall be valid,
except insofar as tE.o work or' use whc:h it auttorizGs is lawful.

Every~permit issued by the City Gas. Engineer under
the provisions of this Ordinance shall expire by limitation and be-
come-nUll and void, if the work authorized by such permit is rtot
commenced within sixty (60) days frOm the date of such permi r, ... or
if thework'authorised by such permit is suspended or abandoned at
any time after the work is comrnenced for a period of sixty (60)
days. Before such work can be reconunenced a new permi t shall be
first obtained to do so.

CONSTITUTIONAL DECLAHATIOlT. 'The pro'visions of
this Ordinance are severable and if any sentence, phrase, clause
or section'thereof is, for any reason, held to be unconstitutional
01' invalid, the decis,\on of the co.urt. shall not effect the validity
of the remaini[':.~portlons' of the Urdlnance.
