CITY OF MERIDIAN
ORDINANCE NO. ~4--! II/ 7
BY THE CITY COUNCIL: BIRD, ROUNTREE, WARDLE
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 1, CHA,rTER 8, SECTIONS 1 AND 2 OF
THE MERDIAN CITY CODE REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT AND
REMOVAL OF DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR'S AND OTHER APPOINTIVE
OFFICERS; AND PROVIDING FOR A WAIVER OF THE READING RULES;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MERIDIAN, IDAHO:
Section 1. That Title 1, Chapter 8, Section 1, Meridian City Code, be, and the
same is hereby amended to read as follows:
CHAPTER 8
CITY OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES
1-8-1: APPOINTMENTS BY MAYOR:
A: Specific Appointments: The mMayor, with the consent of the eCity eCouncil, shall
appoint all Department Director's including a eCity eClerk, eCity aAttomey, eity
pPublic wW orks superimendent Director, eChief of pPolice , chief of fire department
and assistants Fire Chief. Planning and Zoning Director. Parks and Recreation
Director. and Finance Director. Additionally. pursuant to Idaho Code 50-204 the
Mayor with the consent of the City Council shall appoint a aftEi eCity !Treasurer.

It Offices Hereafter Created: The ma:~r, by and ~vith the consent of the city cOlHleil,
shall make appointmems to all city offiees now existing in the city which have not
been in this chapter specifically named and which may be hereafter created from time
to time by the city couneil. (1955 Code ~ 1 ~03)
1-8-2: TERM OF OFFICE AND REMOVAL:

All appointive officers shall hold office for the term for which they were appointed and
qualified; provided, that any appointive officer may at any time be removed by the action
of the mMayor with the concurrence ofa majority one-half (112) plus one (1) of the full
eCityeCouncil or by the unanimous vote of the full City Council. (1955 Code ~ 1-802;
amd. 1999 Code; amd. 2004)
Section 2. All ordinances, resolutions, orders, or parts thereof or in conflict
with this ordinance are hereby voided.

Section 3. That pursuant to the affirmative vote of one-half (1~) plus one (1)
of the Members of the full Council, the rule requiring two (2) separate readings by title
and one (1) reading in full be, and the same is hereby, dispensed with, and accordingly,
this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage, approval and publication.
