APPROVAL OF MINUTES [ACTION ITEM] 1. January 24, 2024 meeting minutes approved. COMMISSION UPDATE 2. Appointment of Bethany Guajardo (Commissioner Cory) Commissioner Guajardo was not present for this meeting. STAFF PROGRAM REPORT 3. 2024 Meridian Survey Question Input (Staff Freitag) Staff Alex Freitag briefed the Commissioners on a residential survey question about city-wide curbside composting services that could appear in the City’s 2-year residential survey. 4. Monthly Presentation- SWAC Commission 101 (Staff Hall) Staff Peter Hall presented information regarding SWAC’s responsibilities, sub-committees, participating in community events, City staff who interact with SWAC, and funding. 5. Fall/Winter Event Tonnage Report (Staff Hall) Staff Hall talked about the tonnage collected from leaves, holiday lights, winter extra trash week, and Christmas trees. The 2024 winter extra trash collection event was explained by Republic Services Konrad McDannel. The 2024 event will consist of free extra trash bags only. OLD BUSINESS [ACTION ITEMS] 7. Grant Subcommittee Updates (Commissioner Larsen) The sub-committee met and discussed grant ideas. In addition, the City Solid Waste Coordinator provided funding and project information to the committee. The sub-committee plans to meet again to solidify their program requirements and bring the plan back to the Commission in March for approval. NEW BUSINESS [ACTION ITEMS] 8. Recycle a Bicycle: Updated guidelines for the 2024 event (Commissioner Nelson) There will be a meeting on March 13, 2024 with Commissioners Walters and Nelson, Staff Schultz, and Republic’s Klein to discuss the 2024 event details. 9. Recycle a Bicycle: volunteer help through the Local HDR Young Professionals and Green Team (Commissioner Nelson) Commissioners Walters and Nelson will have more information after March 13th meeting. 10. 2023 SWAC Annual Report (Commissioner Cory) The Council had some questions about glass and grass curbside service billing and if Trash or Treasure was affected by the discontinuation of Spring Cleanup. The Council thanked SWAC and Republic for supporting the community recycling program. STAKEHOLDER UPDATES No updates from Republic Services. ADJOURNMENT: 4:45pm
