To whom it may concern, Regrettably, I am writing this email to express my opposition to the Artisan Victory Market apartment complex that is proposed to be built on the corner of Victory and Eagle. I have lived in the Treasure Valley my entire life. I attended Mary MacPherson, Lake Hazel Middle, and Mountain View High School. My wife grew up in South Meridian, and we currently live in Orchard Creek off Lake Hazel and Eagle Rd with our 4 young children. I am concerned that this area does not have the infrastructure to support such a project. We have limited options for jobs, shopping, groceries, etc south of the freeway. We have no public transportation in this area. If one does not have a car, or perhaps a family with only 1 car, it would be difficult to walk to get everything you needed (unlike north meridian where stores and shopping abounds). The detrimental effect this project would have on the roads also concerns me. South Eagle Road is already a nightmare to commute on. Even an additional 250-300 cars would have a significant negative effect on commute times. I commute straight down Eagle Road every day, all the way to State Street. Traffic is horrendous. Snow removal often isn’t adequate in south Meridian, as it is managed by the Idaho Transportation Department. On a recent day when it snowed a bit overnight, by 9 am is still took me 30 minutes to get from Amity to Victory down Eagle. I cannot imagine the state South Eagle Road would be in with an apartment complex at Victory and Eagle. such a project would have negative repercussions all down Eagle Road. However, my biggest concern is the negative impact this project will have on our already overcrowded schools. Apartments at the corner of Victory and Eagle would ultimately feed Mountain View High School. There is another apartment complex being built off Overland Road just west of Eagle Road that would also feed MVHS. I have attended City Council meetings in the past regarding projects, and I know that this is also a major concern of the City Council members. As a father of 4 young children who are just starting to attend West Ada schools, this is something I hope is taken very seriously. Ultimately, I feel that adding more apartment complexes does not align with Meridian’s master plan for development. I worry that Meridian is growing too large, too fast, without the resources to support the people who will be living here. I do not believe that this apartment complex is an “attainable housing option” as Barron Properties claims, but rather will be only be a strain on our community. I strongly urge those on City Council to seriously consider the consequences that 1 such a project would have on our beautiful community.
