To: Charlene Way RE: Comments for Nov 22 City Council meeting for KingstownSubdivision Proposal Ms. Way, Attached are our comments for the November 22 City Council Meeting concerning the Kingstown Subdivision Proposal. I hope that it is not too late to submit these for the Council's consideration. We were planning to attend the meeting but have the beginnings of a cold/virus and do not feel it wise for us to venture out. We appreciate the opportunity to share our comments. Thank you, Steve and Linda Gorseth 2573 E Lacewood Dr Meridian, ID 83646 1 Please submit this comment for the November 22, 2022 City Council Meeting concerning the Kingstown Subdivision application. To the Honorable Mayor and the City of Meridian City Council: We are writing concerning the proposed Kingstown Subdivision that is adjacent to Alpine Pointe and Champion Park Subdivisions. We are very concerned with the current design of the proposed subdivision and whole-heartedly agree with our Alpine Pointe neighbor, Malissa Bernard, who has submitted detailed examples to you that illustrate multiple issues that are in conflict with the current Comprehensive Plan of the City of Meridian and her proposed solutions. My hope is that after your careful review of the location, density, and housing configuration of the proposed Kingstown Subdivision, you will decline its approval until improvements to the proposal can be made. This would include lower density, compatibility with existing subdivisions, driveways that accommodate the number and type of vehicles today’s society requires, open space, etc. We are also extremely concerned with the traffic that will be coming to the neighborhoods’ streets and the changing traffic patterns. As both commercial and residential communities grow, our peaceful residential areas are being unfairly expected to carry more and more of the burdens that arterials and the highways should be carrying. Having lived at our residence for ten years, we have seen a substantial increase in cut-through traffic by personal and commercial vehicles, many of which do not comply with the posted 25 mph speed limit. We have also seen several accidents and multiple near misses since there are very few stop signs within Alpine Pointe. My understanding is that the City of Meridian has the final authority to implement conditions related to the transportation system. We are asking for your support and action to implement preventative measures and traffic calming strategies NOW to help avert tragedies. These would include, but may not be limited to, speed bumps on N Camas Creek Way, stop signs (particularly at Wagon St, E Granadillo Dr, and Lacewood Dr), and more speed limit signs. Meridian is a great place to live and that has brought growing pains. We appreciate that as a governing body you have many stakeholders vying for your consideration and we are just one of those. However, we hope that the decisions you make will provide for livable communities and traffic patterns and measures that will provide safety and protection for our current and future neighborhoods. We appreciate your service and commitment to our community and thank you for the opportunity to comment on this proposal. Steve and Linda Gorseth 2573 E Lacewood Dr Meridian, ID 83646
