I am writing to oppose the Klein Huis development, CUPAZ H-2022-0051, for the area at Victory and
Meridian.
The City needs to resist the allowance of this rezoning for multi family units. The city of Meridian has
previously shown leadership in denying the 2020 application.
This consideration for development is inappropriate for the area and the land should not be allowed to
be rezoned for this development. The existing neighborhood would not benefit by this development.
Property values would be adversely affected and traffic would increase. If allowed to be build, the
rentals will be a standalone community, adding to traffic pressures, school pressures and endangering
the families that currently live in the community. There are other places within the city of Meridian
that are better suited to add more rental housing.
A better use of the land, and an inspired opportunity for the city of Meridian, is to back the initiative of
the Meridian Nature Reserve Project. This land has historic significance, specifically the Ridenbaugh
Canal, which is part of our agricultural history. The opportunity to preserve and enhance this area
would help to showcase the forward-thinking leadership of the city of Meridian. Dozens of birds,
mammals and insects would benefit from this protection. As a citizen of Idaho, enjoying the natural
areas of our treasured state always inspires me to respect the land. This is an opportunity to extend that
feeling and create a legacy in the city of Meridian.
