To the leaders of our city,
I urge you to protect more of our open land. Meridian is a wonderful place to live, but in the 8 years I have lived here I
have witnessed an overwhelming explosion of concrete and man made structures, while the natural has been destroyed
and voraciously replaced. I think that using the last empty space on Meridian and Victory for multi family rental housing
is not the best use of the land.
Meridian is in great need of nature preserves, similar to Kathryn Albertson or MK nature center in Boise. We need to
provide places for the wildlife to thrive too--instead of crowding them out. We need some leaders to protect the wonder
and awe of God's incredible design in nature--and to limit those who are greedily using up the land with no thoughts to
how they are affecting the ecosystem. We have got to change the way we do things--and put some checkpoints on the
corporations who are solely focused on profits and not thinking about the overall flourishing of our community.
May we become a community committed to restoring our land, and walking with enough humility to change what we
are doing when we recognize the harmful impacts of our prior choices. Let us be a people who welcome one another in
a way that honors stewardship of the land as much as we value expansion. Let us go forward in wisdom, and may
the protectors rise and stand to care for the vulnerable and overlooked.
Sincerely,
Megan Vondemkamp
