APPROVAL OF MINUTES [ACTION ITEM] 1. Approved 8.24.2022 meeting minutes OLD BUSINESS [ACTION ITEMS] 2. Kayleigh Philippi last day of service 3. Recycle a Bicycle volunteer recruitment: Commissioners are still looking into outside help for processing bikes. Commissioners Nelson and Larsen will work on this. 4. SWAC volunteers needed to process donated bikes at the MTS: Commissioner Nelson asked the group for help organizing the bike tools and the many bikes that have been donated. He asked Republic Services Rachele Klein for a status update on bike amounts. Klein stated that the bikes have all been organized but there has been some request for bikes. 10 bike requests from the Rescue Mission in Boise. Commissioners are needed at the MTS to help get bikes ready for donations. It was scheduled for Commissioners to meet October 4th to organize tools and work on donations. SWAC requested from Republic an area where they can lock up bike tools, a canopy for working outdoors, bike racks, and table. SWAC explore partnerships for collaborative outreach ideas: Rachele Klein offered an outreach idea for SWAC to work with ACHD to educate the public about cutting tree limbs that are too long and are in Republic Services Driver’s way. Staff Schultz commented that City Staff can work on this. Staff Schultz asked the Commission if they wanted to pursue their idea of working with the City’s Art Commission on using recyclable materials to develop an art installation. Commissioner Cory commented that he would reach out to that Commission. Klein suggested reaching out to the Library system to see if they are interested in collaborating on projects and possibly using a portion of the CRF. 6. Recycle the Fall Updates Leaf Drop-off starts October 18th and goes until December 15th, curbside leaf pickup has been extended now starting October 31st to November 26th. Residents can put out 10 leaf bags per week, bags are collected same day as trash but by another truck. Same nine Parks as last year are accepting leaves, as well as the MTS and the ACLF. No pumpkins are collected during the leaf recycling event. During the curbside leaf collection, residents who have grass recycling carts can also place leaves in the carts. Rake Up Meridian is also going on this year from November 5th to the 20th. Staff Schultz asked Commissioners if they know of any HOAs that she can email out the leaf flyer to. STAKEHOLDER UPDATES 7. Republic Services Klein suggested that SWAC open up the CRF grant program again. Staff Schultz commented that SWAC last year voted on that they were not going to pursue the grant program as much and grant requests would be evaluated on a case by case basis throughout the year. In addition, SWAC decided that they wanted to focus more on outreach. Klein suggested having a grant application online so individuals or groups could apply throughout the year. Staff Schultz will find the previous meeting minutes that discuss SWAC’s grant decision and other grant related documents and email them to the Commissioners. Commissioner Larsen also commented that funds from the CRF for the squishy water bottle program also need to be set aside. ADJOURNMENT: 4:52 pm
