Support development of a connected pathway system across the City of Meridian, with a focus on developing projects for future construction. 3. Participate in the design and programming of a new Community Center. 4. Support the development of the Comprehensive Park System Master Plan Update. 5. New Business The group gathered at the Meridian Pool at 5:30 p.m. MPR Director Steve Siddoway welcomed everyone, and introductions were made. Boxed dinners were handed out to participants. Steve recognized BerryDunn—this year’s dinner sponsor. Steve recognized MPR Commissioner Camden Hyde whose last official meeting was this tour. In addition, Steve also shared some highlights from the recent City Survey. a. Volunteer Program Coordinator – Our new Volunteer Program Coordinator Jaime Del Barrio started on Monday, October 3, 2022. JENNA FLETCHER, RECREATION COORDINATOR (CLASSES & CAMPS) 1. 2022 Fall Classes – Fall classes are in full swing at the Community Center and Homecourt. Fall classes will end December 2022. 2. 2023 Winter/Spring Guide – I am currently working with Shelly Houston to create our winter/spring guide. We are aiming for a release date of the last week of November, with registration opening the first week of December, and classes starting January 2023. Classes will run through May of 2023. 3. Community Center? – As of right now we are told that we will no longer have access to our current Community Center after December 2022. I am actively looking for space to hold a couple different classes. We are moving art, photography, and a few other smaller scale and sedentary classes over to the Meridian Pool. MAGGIE COMBS, RECREATION COORDINATOR (SPORTS) 1. 2022 Fall Volleyball League – We are approaching the mid-season of our Fall Volleyball season. We are currently playing games at Homecourt, Boys and Girls Club, and local schools. 2. 2022 Fall Flag Football League – We are currently underway with the league. Games are being played at Storey Park on Monday through Thursday. 3. 2022 Spring/Summer Softball League – This league has concluded for the year, as we are already starting to plan for the 2023 season and taking on the Senior Softball League in-house. 4. 2023 Winter Volleyball League – League registration will be opening soon for the 2023 season for Women’s and Coed teams. Registrations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and not guaranteed until payment is received in full. Page 32 Item 10. The tournament takes place on November 5th at the Homecourt. Teams are able to register and pay online and also make donations to help raise money to make Christmas morning a little brighter for kids. Introduction– I started my job as the Volunteer Program Coordinator at the beginning of October, but I have been with the City of Meridian for the past two years in the City Clerk’s office. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University in the spring of 2020. I have served in various volunteer coordinator roles in both high school and college but more recently as part of a local campaign. 2. September 2022 Volunteer Hours – In September, we had 242 volunteer hours. This consisted of the City Hall front desk hours. Page 33 Item 10. Recruitment – Recruitment for both Trunk or Treat, as well as the Christmas Parade, has already begun. JAKE GARRO, HOMECOURT FACILITY MANAGER 1. Facility Operations – Hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.; Saturday – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday – 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. • MPR Fall Volleyball is being held on Monday and Wednesday evenings on Court 1. This league will conclude mid-November. • MPR Winter Coed Volleyball is taking place at Homecourt on Mondays and Thursdays. This league will conclude mid-March. • MPR adult Basketball will be held Monday through Thursday beginning in December. This league will conclude in mid-March. 2. Facility Rentals Since February 2022 – • Flash Basketball/End of Trail Tournament – February 11,12, & 13 • Legacy Martial Arts Tournament – March 11 & 12 • USA Wrestling Tournament – March 25 & 26 • Select Basketball Tournament – May 6, 7, & 8 • Select Basketball Camp – September 24 • Holiday Classic – November 5 MPR Event • I Am Elite Basketball Tournament – December 30 & 31 3. Community Education/Court 5 – Court 5 is consistently scheduled throughout the week each day for community education classes. Classes include gymnastics, tumbling, cheerleading, pickleball, and martials arts. Classes do take place during the weekend hours in Court 5 as well, typically during the afternoon hours on Sunday. 4. Community Athletic Groups – Practice times have been scheduled for local AAU groups for the months of September, October, and November. Practices typically take place each evening Monday – Friday, from 4:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. 5. Weekend Facility Schedule – We are looking to improve our weekend operations, how the facility is scheduled, and/or what activities are offered during the weekend. Currently, during weekend hours, the facility is set up as follows: Court 1 two volleyball nets Court 2 & 3 basketball Court 4 three pickleball nets Court 5 pickleball when it becomes available Page 34 Item 10. Floor Resurfacing Project – All four basketball courts were re-surfaced in August/September. Homecourt was closed during this project from August 29 – September 8. We opened back up for business on Friday, September 9. Membership holders were granted days lost during our closure. 7. Lakeview Golf Course – Lakeview Golf Course is now operated and managed by the City of Meridian, effective October 1. Golf course employees are now employed by the City of Meridian. The restaurant and bar are being operated by a concessionaire. CASSANDRA SCHIFFLER, ARTS & CULTURE COORDINATOR 1. Initial Point Gallery – • The current show for September is an exhibit entitled Radiant, with artists Mary McInnis, Jeanette Millward, Hartini Gibson, and Melissa Reche. • Due to conflicts with Garden City’s First Fridays, the Initial Point Gallery subcommittee is recommending to move the opening receptions back to the First Tuesday of the month, with installation day on the Monday before the opening. This will go into effect in 2023. I am working on confirming the schedule with the selected artists and groups for 2023. 2. Public Art Projects - • The murals by Key Design at the unBound Library, and by Miguel Almeida and Macy Ratzesberger at the Tully Skate Park murals, have been completed. We are planning unveiling ceremonies for November 10 at 5:30 p.m. at unBound, Page 35 Item 10. I’ll be working on the design stage with the artist, MAC, and WARD representative(s) in the coming months. • Three (3) of the 10 traffic box wraps have been installed, and the rest will be completed soon. (Right Image: Nathan Lee’s Robot City, 4th grade, Paramount Elementary) • The four artist finalists for the Five Mile Creek Pathway Trailhub have sent their proposals for the public artwork. Proposals will be reviewed by a selection panel in October. • I’m beginning to strategize for the next big public art project, which is planned for Discovery Park, Phase II. • The MAPS Ordinance and an updated amendment was reviewed by Council in August, and they responded positively to removing the not-to-exceed cap, so the public art budget will now grow each year according to the population moving forward. 3. Art Week and Concerts on Broadway – • Meridian Art Week was a great success! We had the Art Drop, community events, classes, mural installations, chalk art competition, hands on art projects, live performances, gallery openings, and various participating businesses all week. • Concerts on Broadway was a great success, we had excellent attendance and great spirits all around. Historic Preservation Commission – • We will have an official answer this fall from the National Parks Service about the Meridian Speedway nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. • I worked with a consultant to add several virtual 360 panoramic sites to the City’s Virtual Tour: https://hullfilm.com/projects/meridian/360tour/ The sites that were added are 4 downtown sites along Idaho Street, and 2 sites along HWY 16. • Our consultant, TAG Historic Research, is working on a survey of North Main Street area. This survey should help identify and hopefully lead to more Historic Registry nominations. Page 37 Item 10.
