Victory and Meridian - Klein Huis 134 Rentals
Reference project # H-2022-005
City of Meridian Mayor Simison and City Council members,
I am unable to attend the Public Meeting on October 20th, but wanted to express
my concerns for the development of the Klein Huis project on Victory and Meridian Road.
First, let me state:
I have seen many NIMBY people in my past life of 12 years on the City Council in CA.
I firmly believe that rental units are needed, and it is our duty to provide a variety of
affordable housing in our community. I am not opposed the development, but have
concerns related to traffic, kids safety, and school impacts to our area.
My concern regarding this project:
1. The proposed plan development will only have two in and out access roads
- one on Meridian Road which is impacted with traffic - and must be a (only right turn out)
- the second access road out -- Victory Road
which leads to either Meridian which is already impacted,
or to Victory which is impacted, then to Stoddard impacted traffic to a school or commercial.
My major concern is the extra overflow traffic being pushed down Stoddard Road
where we have bus routes, school children walking, riding bikes and scooters to Victory Middle School,
and sport events at Bear Creek Park.
If you visit Stoddard and Victory area during school time, you will see numerous School Buses, cars,
and trucks lined up attempting to leave off kids at Victory Middle School.
Bear Creek homeowners have a difficult time leaving our subdivision due to heavy traffic.
Besides the vehicle traffic, there are numerous kids walking, riding bikes, and on scooters lining up
at the traffic light as they make their way to school.
Will the developer contribute with "Impact Fees" to mitigate these traffic, safety and school
concerns?
or will the citizens/taxpayers carry the burden ?
Has the city realize the concerns of an already overflowing school district?
Recently, several bus stops were omitted due to lack of drivers, increasing traffic.
I have been in your position, and value the work and decision making process of a City Council,
along with the work of City Staff. I recognize that this decision has been before you before, but
ask that you carefully consider the impact on our homes and families.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
~~Mary Ann Courville
