City Staff present was Arts and Culture Coordinator Cassandra Schiffler
ACTION ITEMS
1. Discuss and Select: Tammy De Weerd’s Awards in the Arts in 2022: Support of the
Arts, Arts in Education, Excellence in the Arts, and Student Excellence in the Arts
Nominations for awards in the arts in the four categories were reviewed and discussed, and
the following award recipients were recommended:
Supporter of the Arts: Cecyle Brock, Owner/Managing Member of Deja Brew Laugh
a Latte
Arts in Education: Marianna Edwards, 14 year Art Educator at Owyhee High School
and visual artist
Excellence in the Arts: Dwight Williams, Visual Artist and one of the founding
Meridian Arts Commissioners
Student Excellence in the Arts: Randy B Funk, High School Senior, Christian Hip Hop
Performer, and former Youth Meridian Arts Commissioner
Previous awards were glass pieces created by a glass studio, and nameplates were added.
C. Schiffler will look into logistics for commissioning similar awards, and will create
certificates. These awards are planned to be presented at the Concert on Broadway
performance during Art Week on September 10, and Mayor Simison and former Mayor
Tammy De Weerd will be invited to present the awards.
N. Schofield motioned to approve the above award recipients, seconded by L. Taylor.
