APPROVAL OF MINIUTES: 1. B. Griffith made the motion to approve the Minutes of the February 10, 2022 meeting; seconded by L. Taylor. All ayes. Minutes approved. DISCUSSION ITEMS: 2. Update: Social Media Content: C. Schiffler is posting regularly on Instagram and Facebook featured posts of artists currently in IPG shows. Goal is to post 2x week. Encouraged sharing of posts to friends to bring awareness of the gallery shows. N. Schofield has shared several images of traffic box art with C. Schiffler to post. 3. Update on past and present gallery Exhibits – TVAA and Abstract shows: Both Verdant Discourse (March exhibit) and current Abstracts show had excellent attendance with 70+ attendees at the current show opening reception. 4. Music Talent at openings: Discussion of having music at the openings included past practices and current possibilities. B. Griffith shared the past practice of having a speaker loaded with classical or easy listening instrumental music and an occasional live performance that was arranged by the guest gallery artist(s). C. Schiffler indicated there is a keyboard that is stored at city hall that could be used. N. Schofield will contact the Meridian Symphony to see if their youth musician(s) are able to bring some music to the opening of the next show in May exhibit which is the WASD youth art show. 5. West ADA School District Show: This show hangs and opens first Friday of May. C. Schiffler asked for assistance in hanging show with the recent history of few volunteers coming to help install the shows. R. Wardle, youth commissioner will host this show’s opening. WASD does their initial show opening and awards on April 21. No award winners are to be discussed until after that date. 6. IPG Call to Artists: The call is approved and now on the website for city of Meridian. Several organizations were identified to send the call to help spread the word and application. C. Schiffler will email them. Everyone encouraged to share with their network. ACTION ITEMS 7. Approve WASD student show awards: L. Taylor made the motion to approve the selection of the WASD student art awards; seconded by B. Griffith . All ayes. Motion approved. Minutes from November 23, 2021 Initial Point Gallery Subcommittee Meeting B. Griffith made motion to approve minutes, seconded by L. Taylor All ayes REPORTS 2. Update: Current and Incoming Gallery Exhibits B. Griffith described the opening reception for the group of artists currently exhibiting in the gallery. Around 32 people attended. The next show is a group show of work by the Treasure Valley Artist Alliance and L. Taylor will be hosting. 3. Tentative 2022 Initial Point Gallery Schedule C. Schiffler presented the tentative 2022 Initial Point Gallery Schedule. A few artists agreements remain unsigned, and a new group for September was presented, The College of Western Idaho as a faculty show. Subcommittee members were in agreement, and C. Schiffler will offer an acceptance agreement to the College of Western Idaho Faculty. ACTION ITEMS 4. Discuss Initial Point Gallery September Show Artists and Approve Revised Opening Reception Date of September 9, 2022 The September opening reception is currently scheduled the Friday September 2, before Labor Day. This Friday before Labor Day has had a poor attendance in past years. An alternate opening reception date was considered for the following Friday 3 Item 1. September 9, to coincide with Art Week activities. However, the Friday of Art Week was the Community Art Party, centered at Kleiner Park, last year. Thursday September 8th was considered as it would coincide with Meridian Art Foundation’s Art Sip. C. Schiffler will reach out to the Meridian Art Foundation to confirm their date and plans for Art Sip to coordinate planning. The subcommittee agreed to put the item on the Events and Outreach subcommittee agenda, as the subcommittee will be discussing and planning Art Week activities. 5. Election of 2022 Subcommittee Chair N. Schfield opened the floor for nominations for subcommittee chair. B. Griffith nominated N. Schofield; seconded by L. Taylor. Seeing no other nominations, N. Schofield was appointed as Chair. DISCUSSION ITEMS 6. Review 2022 IPG Call to Artist materials, Edit Call, Plan Timeline for Call-to-Artist Release, Deadline, Selection Process Dates The subcommittee reviewed the Call for Artists, and agreed to edits suggested by C. Schiffler. C. Schiffler will present the edited call to the MAC meeting for approval in March. The proposed timeline for the call will be for the call to be released shortly after the March approval, open in April and May, with the selection panel meeting in June, and notices to be sent in July. 7. Discussion of Subcommittee Meeting Frequency and Functional Needs The subcommittee discussed the need for meeting frequency. L. Taylor stated that could go either way, and didn’t think the subcommittee needed to meet more often. B. Griffith noted that most time intensive Initial Point Gallery subcommittee meeting is always the selection panel meeting for the following year’s calendar. L. Taylor suggested a longer Saturday meeting for that selection panel. N. Schofield asked when the subcommittee should meet again, and C. Schiffler suggested April, in order to discuss targeted advertising and promoting the call to various artists, groups, emails, etc. NEXT MEETING – April 14, 2022 2:00pm ADJOURNMENT L.
