Unplug and Be Outside – Unplug & Be Outside featured a week of free activities to encourage youth, adults, and families to be physically active and try new activities in arts, sports, and recreation. Happily, after two years off, due to Covid-19, we returned the two largest events: the Kick-off and Field Day. Returning favorites to the kick-off were the free tire slime station, free bicycle helmets by St Luke’s Children’s Hospital, and the bicycle rodeo. Idaho Parks & Recreation, Children’s Museum of Idaho, Treasure Valley YMCA, and Idaho Conservation Corps were first time participants. The day was extremely rainy which had a negative impact on attendance. Despite the weather, the vendors were glad to be there, thankful for the opportunity, and interested in returning next year. This year we also offered a field day and food truck rally to raise money for the Care Enough to Share scholarship program in Settlers Park. Activities included fishing, tennis lessons, and an introduction to soccer and flag football. Idaho Central Credit Union has stepped up to sponsor this year, and we used those funds to support the Unplug Challenge prizes. The prizes were used to encourage participation of the individual classes and staying unplugged. Seventy-two people entered and 26 won prizes. Up for grabs were Bogus Basin summer passes, Idaho Botanical Garden event passes, Zoo Boise admission passes, and more. We had entries aged 1 – 70. 2. Movie Night – Movie Night continues this summer with 11 outdoor, family-friendly movies from June 11 – August19. 3. Gene Kleiner Day – The Meridian Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert on Saturday, June 11, in the Julius Kleiner Bandshell as we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the opening of Kleiner Park. Added to this year’s festivities are Jukebox—a local cover band, free ice cream, and an instrument petting zoo. Page 73 Item 7. The event begins at 4 p.m. and concludes with the City fireworks. Games are from 4 – 7 pm. Live music will perform from 7:30 p.m. – until the fireworks conclude. Page 74 Item 7.
