Hi Mark,
Thank you for reaching out regarding your thoughts on the Dalton Royal application. Your email has been received by
the Mayor’s office and I appreciate your detailed items. As your email suggests, this project has been submitted to the
Planning department and there is a potential for this to be heard by the Mayor and Council as the application has an
appeal process. If an appeal is filed, that is when the Council could take the item up. While the appeal period is
currently open, the Mayor and council should not be providing input. I believe the City Clerk has responded to your
inquiry as well, and I wanted to make sure you had the complete information in case you did not receive any
communication.
We have contacted our Planning Department and they shared that the proposed use is for a restaurant and indoor
recreation facility as you noted, both principally permitted uses in the C-G (General Retail and Service Commercial
District) zoning district. The property has been annexed and zoned C-G since 2005 when it was part of the Sadie Creek
Commons commercial subdivision.
Understanding the preceding Oasis application was denied by City Council, the currently proposed uses are principally
permitted which means they only require administrative, staff level review. There is no public hearing for administrative
th
applications. On October 15, City Staff issued a Certificate of Zoning Compliance, Change of Use approval (CZCU-2021-
0016) for a restaurant/indoor recreation facility use for the tenant space. This is a different use than the previously
proposed Oasis nightclub which was a Drinking Establishment. The use of a restaurant/indoor recreation facility on this
site is consistent with the existing Development Agreement.
Under Unified Development Code (UDC) 11-5A-4, any person who wants to be a party of record with regard to the CZCU
can request so in writing. A party of record may seek City Council review of the administrative decision on or before
November 1, 2021, within fifteen (15) days after the written decision was issued, pay the $692 application fee, and
include a written basis of appeal based on and citing the information listed in UDC 11-5A-6B.
I have added the City Clerk to this email so that your email and comments are added to the public record, and again, I
appreciate you reaching out and sharing your concerns. Please also feel free to reach out to Bill Parsons, the Planning
Supervisor, who can also address any further questions you may have.

Dear Mayor, city council members and esteemed colleagues,
I am writing to appeal to your decency in the findings of Mr. Tsai’s proposal to set up shop as the Dalton Royal in the Wadsworth pad
area on the corner of Eagle Rd. And Ustick St.
As a Meridian resident and a Jackson Square homeowner, all the same reasons why so many of us vehemently were against the
building of the Oasis still apply simply because the proposed Dalton Royal is just dressed up with different ingredients as the Oasis
but with different ingredients. Simply put, if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck it is still just a duck and the same can be said about
the Dalton Royal. It still will pose the same safety hazards, parking concerns and many other issues that were addressed originally
when the Oasis was firmly denied.
As I recall, what made the most sense to most of us including council members was that these ideas of Mr. Thai were all good
progressive ideas for Meridian but just not in that area.
The same holds true for the proposed Dalton Royal. It will potentially morph into something bigger by design and rear it’s true self
down the line when nothing can be done to stop it so for the sake of your titles and what you stand for the city of Meridian, please
stop Mr. Thai in his tracks and do not allow him from building on site.
There are many fine areas in Meridian to build the Oasis and the same should be true
for the Dalton Royal.
Thank you for your time and great success in keeping Meridian safe.
Regards,
Mark Aronson

Thank you Mr. Aronson,
I would love to discuss, but I am hearing from our legal team that the CZC may be appealed,
and as such, I cannot discuss if I am to potentially vote on this as a future matter.
I am forwarding to the clerk's office to add this to the record,
Have a great day!
