Dear Mayor, City Councilmembers, and City Staff:
Mr. Tsai who, during the summer and representing The Oasis Nightclub, tried to
squeeze, right under everyone's nose, a nightclub type of establishment in a family,
neighborhood community. Fortunately enough citizens attended the meeting expressing
their anxiety about this type of establishment in our neighborhood and the city council
listened to them and turned him down.
We have just learned that the same Mr. Tsai is proposing another venture be built in
this same neighborhood, under the guise of a restaurant that serves liquor. The very
unfortunate circumstance, as we understand it, is that no citizens, neighbors, business
owners, no one can make their wishes be heard under the type of process he is
proposing, something called CZC Application. If this is a correct assumption, this is
wrong. The same children, senior citizens, and working folk still reside in close
proximity to the establishment. A bar by any other name is still a bar. It is also our
understanding that once it has been approved, he can change his plans and turn it into a
nightclub, just as he proposed before and there is nothing any of us who live closeby can
do about it. Is this true or have the facts been distorted?
If this is indeed a fact, we wish to lodge my protest. We have strongly stated before
that we want NO nightclub to be situated in our neighborhood. This isn't a good
environment for children, plus the traffic it would create is beyond our
comprehension. We are already overwhelmed with traffic because of the growth
Meridian is experiencing. Now throw this into the mix, then for fun add that they will all
be inebriated! Meridian, Idaho is a lovely community. It's growing too fast for our taste
but that is life. Please, PLEASE don't allow it to turn into an unsavory place like we see
in other large cities. We don't want our property values to plummet. Please consider his
proposal very, very carefully.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
