COMMUNITY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT � Megan Larsen Taryn Richmond Rand Spiwak Isabel Kau 1Liz Strader, City Council Ex-Officio SWAC Chair thanked Republic Services for the informative insert in the latest billing PROGRAM REPORT 1. Meridian Station Transfer Station - R Klein described the news signs that have been posted. There has been a decrease in contamination but they still have small amounts they remove. The signs look smaller than anticipated once they were out up. R Klein indicated they will probably make larger signs. 2. Recycle a Bicycle Update - 4:30 pm Tuesday June 1 will be a repair the bikes day and R Klein invited any who could help to come out. They have paired with Meridian Elementary will be receiving the bikes. It was also mentioned Nampa has received bikes to assist those in need to receive a bike and use it for work transportation 3. Squishy Water Bottle Pilot Project Outcomes - R Klein commented the pilot bin has not been hauled yet as it is only 1/3 full. The lack of hauling has left funds available to continue the Solid Waste Advisory Commission Meeting -Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Page 1 of 2 All Materials presented at public meetings shall become property of the City of Meridian project passed the end of June which was the original end date. The commission agreed to continue the pilot until the end of the summer. Republic offered to pay for any shortage of funds if that does occur by the end of the fiscal year. 4. Trash or Treasure/Spring Clean Up Update -There was a great turnout this year. 899 houses participated in Trash or Treasure up from 470 last year. There was a strong social media push and two call m alls this year. Pictures of items put out were displayed. Some house put out too many items for Spring cleanup, with many unacceptable items such as car parts, fence posts with cement or pianos. The event was too big for all of the pick up to be done within one week. A second week is suggested to be added next year with the split be done to match customers recycling week. Additional efforts will be done to better communicate acceptable items for Spring Cleanup. 5. Eagle/Meridian Glass Hauling - R Klein described how Meridian recycled glass goes to Utah to be recycled into fiber glass. There is no limit from the recycler. Eagle has singed up to have their glass take taken there as well. A second trailer will be added to the truck that transports which would decrease Meridian hauling costs by 50%.
