DISCUSSION ITEMS
2. Discussion of Research Materials
T. Vannucci introduced the article, 4Cs of Enlightened Leadership, by Ekaterina
Walter. The Subcommittee discusses the principles of the four “c’s,” character,
competence, collaboration, and courage. L. Mauldin pointed out that we increase
our competency through collaboration. T. Vannucci acknowledged that
coordinating collaboration seems to be the next step. The Subcommitte agreed that
the memo T. Vannucci prepared for the whole Commission addresses Character
and Courage, and the Subcommittee will continue to work on Competency and
Character. They also agreed that the Subcommittee is as on track as they can be
with their current knowledge and resources.
ACTION ITEMS
3. Discuss and Refine Memo for the Arts Commission
The Subcommittee approved of the drafted memo and T. Vannucci suggested that
the ideas and format of E. Walter’s article also be added to the memo. The
Subcommittee agreed. J. Peters cautioned that definition #4 of “enlightened” which
was highlighted in the article could easily be misconstrued as a moral/religious
message. The Subcommittee agreed to remove definition #4. A. Belnap also
suggested making the point with fewer words to make the memo more readable
and understandable.
J. Peters asked if she could discuss this in the Public Art Subcommittee next week.
The AIM Subcommittee gave the green light as long as it is cursory and a preview
instead of delving into the discussion.
REPORTS
4. Update: Contact with Karen Bubb
T. Vannucci emailed and called, has not heard back. He will follow up with her
under his own discretion.
5. Update: Frequency of AIM Meetings
J. Peters expressed that she felt the Subcommittee’s work should be transitioned to
the Commission so that the work is not isolated to the Subcommittee. She
suggested this could happen in the Commission reports or as an agenda itemin the
Subcommittees. T. Vannucci agreed that the work should begin to be ingrained in
the regular business of the Commission. The Subcommittee agreed to meet
quarterly.

DISCUSSION ITEMS
2. Create Actionable Goals Aligned with the AIM Manifesto
T. Vannucci started by talking about the AIM Manifesto. Overall, the purpose is to
work on fostering unity through inclusion. He referenced Tim Cook/Apple on
becoming a force for good by focusing on representation, inclusion and
accountability and make sure we are including everyone we can - be accessible.
J. Peters brought up Americans for the Arts Cultural Center tool kit. J. Peters
mentioned that for our Call to Artists she made sure to reach out to as many
groups as she could. We can and should be inviting specific groups to our events.
We could also partner to plan an event or gallery opening.
Macro Goal - systemic change
Micro Goal - Sub committee involvement....What are we each doing to support
AIM?
3
Item 1.
We are wondering if AIM will become politicized. We discussed how it is ok to be
uncomfortable when making change.
J. Peters brought up a Land Acknowledgement before a meeting and A. Belnap
thought that might be better suited if we have an art installation. Something to
think about.

Item 2.
MEMO
DATE: May 12, 2021
TO: Meridian Arts Commission
FROM: AIM
SUBJECT: Recommendations and Status
Fellow Commissioners
AIM continues to meet and discuss opportunities, responsibilities, and values this
subcommittee can bring to MAC. AIM has determined that we are still in the early stages of
discovery, learning and exploration on how best to positively influence, guide and impact MAC.
Therefore, as we continue to learn and grow through the macro of diversity and inclusion, AIM
will apply the micro by asking for commitment versus compliance. For your consideration:
AIM asks each commissioner, chairperson, and subcommittee to commit to asking the
question; is there anything we can do currently to move metrics towards inclusivity, equality,
equity, and justice on all existing and future projects that we are not currently doing? Make
this a repetitive question at each meeting.
We believe by making the ask at each meeting it will keep this important topic front of mind.
This will allow AIM to continue to develop a strong acceptable standard operating procedure
applicable to MAC and its demographic.
