We vehemently oppose the proposal to allow RV, boats, trailers and other personal recreational vehicles on
Meridian city streets.
If this is allowed, Meridian is going to look like a white trash City. Frankly, if you can afford a RV or boat, you
can afford to store it off-site.
Some questions for you to consider:
1. How will the street cleaning be accomplished if there are vehicles in the streets?
2. Will postal deliveries be impacted negatively by RV's in the street?
3. How is trash collection impacted?
4. How does this proposal impact those local storage businesses who rely on the revenue generated by
residents storing their RVs, trailers and boats?
5. With vehicles parked on the streets, how does that impact bike riders and their safety? Children playing?
6. How do these vehicles effect the ability of the Fire Department to attack house fires?
7. Will there be an increase in crime as criminals break-in or damage vehicles parked in the street?
Suggestions to narrow down the proposal:
1. Only homes with 1 acre lots or more are allowed to park vehicles in front of their homes. This would ensure
there is plenty of space between recreational vehicle parking.
2. Vehicles must be in running condition and have to be removed from the street every month for a minimum
of 2 days. This will ensure the owners are not just leaving a RV or boat that they don't use, don't want and
can't sell to sit unused and become an eyesore.
3. Vehicles may not be parked within 50 feet of a mailbox or driveway entrance.
Subdivisions must be allowed to overrule this City code. We live in a subdivision where the houses are very
close together with streets that aren't very wide. It would be horrible if there were a bunch of vehicles parked
along the street.
We urge you to reject this proposal.
