We strongly opposed changes to the Meridian City Code 11-3C-4.A2. The number one reason is safety. Our HOA allows for one RV vehicle to be parked on gravel, asphalt or concrete for 72 hours and this causes MANY safety issues. When an RV is parked on the street, if foliage and trees form a canopy over the sidewalk cyclists and walkers/runners have to venture out into the street (MANY ARE CHILDREN) with no visibility of oncoming traffic, If cyclists, walkers and runners go between the vegetation and the RV that's parked they often end up hitting their heads, bike or arms. We've seen this many times in our neighborhood, and it's not safe for anyone! The other issue with the changes is that this would allow people with any type of RV to live in front of a residence, With homeless and unemployment increasing in our area, this encourages people that live in RV's to park in front of properties and homes long term. Unfortunately, people take advantage of this seemingly helpful City Code and negotiate dishonest financial deals with homeowners, in order to live in front of their property. In Boise, where this occurs, it's very difficult to remove these people and RV's from the streets once they are in violation of any other laws. Oftentimes the RV has mechanical problems and can't be moved, which leaves the issue of who pays to have it towed. Our friends on the Boise Bench experienced this and the RV was a drug lab which caught on fire!
