NEW BUSINESS [ACTION ITEMS]
2. Create Strategic Transition Plan for History of Meridian Idaho Facebook Group
In order to transition the Facebook group smoothly into Commission sponsored
content, the Subcommittee discussed how to create commissioner profiles for each
commissioner. It was suggested that the commissioner profiles are connected with
emails on the City’s server or created by the City. This way, the City will have
control over those same accounts and will retain accounts when commissioners
end their service. A. Belnap will look into this possibility through aliases on the
City server or through the google drive.
The Subcommittee requested training on the City’s formal social media policy. A.
Belnap will find it and bring it to the next Subcommittee meeting. The
Subcommittee will review the policy and add any additional instruction they feel is
necessary. This joint document will be provided as social media guidelines for the
commissioners at the next Commission meeting.
Ideally, the Subcommittee would like the commissioners’ posts to be high quality
and engaging. If this is not the case when a commissioner posts, B. Johnston
volunteered to speak with the commissioner and provide guidance on how they
can improve next time.
3. Plan Content for Initial Facebook Group Takeover
The Subcommittee anticipates meeting quarterly in order to create a content
calendar for the Facebook group. The content calendar will be created on the
HPC Google Drive and made sharable to the Subcommittee. Historically, the
HPC has had their photos saved on Dropbox. J. Nary volunteered to move the
Dropbox photos to Google Drive and create proper naming conventions to
make the photos easy to find. The Google Drive will also hold a document
with a list of appropriate and relevant hashtags to use on each post. This will
make it easier for commissioners to copy and paste the hashtags in captions.
The Subcommittee decided that they will start with a post once per week on
Thursdays as a “Throwback Thursday” post.
The Subcommittee anticipates finalizing their plans at the next
Subcommittee meeting, introducing the Facebook group to the
commissioners at the January HPC meeting, and inviting them to create their
new profiles then. The Subcommittee hopes to begin posting regularly on
February 4, 2021.
