The first grant, in the amount of $1 00,000, was spent entirely on the upgrades listed
above, with the exception of the roof replacement. An additional $22,000 was spent by
the seniors on unforeseen costs, which included asbestos removal, concrete technicians,
and change orders under the original scope of work.
Phase II of the Meridian Senior Center Improvements includes items outlines in the
Meridian Senior Center Capital Improvement Plan. The amount needed is $100,000.
The seniors are currently constructing a new garage, at a cost of $15,000, which is
eligible to be counted as match towards the second grant. This grant will be used to:
Install new windows (dining room and office wing)
Install sound boards (dining room)
Bring front entry ramp up to ADA code
Install air conditioning in kitchen area
Replace front entry doors to meet ADA requirements
Replace 30" office doors to meet ADA requirements
Build 20'x 30' 600 sq. ft. pool room (east end of office wing)
If funds are available

$ 6,200
$ 1,600
$10,400

$ 2,400

The seniors are currently in the process of having an energy audit completed by Idaho
Power to help determine cost savings by installing energy efficient windows and doors.
The seniors have been very active in seeking out and accumulating cost estimates for all
of the above listed items, and this grant would complete all of the items listed in their
capital improvement plan.

Happy Holidays! Ken Altig let me know that Keith Bird was supportive of the City sponsoring another block grant
for the Meridian Seniors in march, if not, the Meridian Seniors are planning on going in for another block grant in
March! This process will be much easier since everything is essentially done for the application but we will need to
have a hearing and that kind of stuff once it gets closer. In the meantime, I need you to send out the RFP for
administrative services to three Certified Grant Administrators on the attached list, and I would really appreciate it
if you included Sage in the three. I have put a closing date of Monday, the 16th of January to give everyone
enough time to respond after the holidays, but if you could get it out just as soon as you can, just like last time, you
can fax it out to three administrators, but seven days must pass between when you send it out and the closing
date, so at the very latest, Thursday January 5th. Thanks for all of your help and if you have any questions, let
me know.
Thanks
