The roads in this area don’t support the additional traffic. Most of these new proposed developments in the SW Meridian area are higher density proposals, which neither the roads nor the schools can support. Traffic is already an issue with the existing neighborhoods and newly built projects in the area. The schools can’t support the huge influx of children that these developments will bring. Also, from a previous development proposal I attended, the developers stated that the schools are near capacity…I know very well that schools are AT capacity or we would not be asked constantly for additional funding for more schools. SW Meridian residents also expressed the importance of open spaces - this does not merely mean a walking path and a patch of lawn for the kids to play on within said proposed community. It means open fields where wildlife can be supported and enjoyed/viewed by everyone. SW Meridian residents do not want high density housing in this part of Meridian! We don’t want increased traffic noise and light pollution. We don’t want the traffic issues that the other parts of Meridian have had to live with for years until the roads are finally widened, years after developments have exceeded the intended road capacities. Main concerns for these projects continues to be the backlash to high density housing in more rural settings, the desire for open/natural spaces to keep some of the appeal of the rural/farming community that we all love, the negative impact on the already terrible traffic situation, and school capacity. We know growth is inevitable; what we’re asking for is SMART growth. Not growth at any and all costs. For all of these reasons, I oppose this development.
