Re: Heroes Park Parking Expansion
Certificate of Zoning Compliance Application Narrative
On behalf of the Meridian Parks and Recreation Department; we are pleased to submit this CZC
application for proposed parking expansion at Heroes Park. As you know, this is an existing park
at the northeast corner of N Ten Mile Road and W Malta Drive. This park currently has 294
parking spaces. We would like to add 161 spaces.
To accomplish this we propose to turn the existing basketball area into parking and add a new
paved area to the west of the existing parking lot. We plan to move the existing basketball area
to the landscape area east of the playground.
The property has existing landscape buffers along street frontages. We propose new landscaped
islands in east lot but request alternative compliance to the landscape requirement for the west
lot. This west lot area is the existing basketball area and contains a large concrete pad. We would
like to retain this concrete, with the exception of saw cut and demolition necessary for new
curbed islands. It would be cost prohibitive to remove the amount of concrete necessary to run
irrigation to the islands so we propose to use rock mulch and boulders instead. We have located
additional trees along the south and west parking edges to mitigate for the trees that normally
would be planted in the parking interior.
