I am resending as I forgot to type the subject line and I want to make sure it is put in the records. I am writing to oppose the idea to put apartments in on a property at Meridian and Victory. It is very upsetting how many times Meridian city keeps considering and most of the time allowing developers who purchase the property as one zoning code to rezone so they can build more homes/apartments instead. I heard about this particular property via a phone call meeting in April and opposed the change at that time. After learning more about the development plan it is clear that this needs to be stopped. There are at least 5 reasons but I am only going to list a few: 1. The first thing that makes me leery is the need to rezone the property. That indicates that the initial planned use doesn't benefit the developer. It also tells me that the change is likely not to fit the surrounding zoning. R15 is not the same as the surrounding zoning. The homes in the adjoining area are higher end homes and the apartments proposed will only bring down the value. I think the developer is being disingenuous and really wants the financial benefit of apartments. 2. Traffic from an Apartment complex is by its very nature much higher due to the density of dwellings. The Meridian/Victory Intersection is already congested with all the growth. One driveway in and out will create a huge amount of congestion. Many of these apartment dwellers will be using our neighborhood, Bear Creek and surrounding areas, as a cut through to get around the traffic on Meridian. We have kids and pets who play in this area. How many of them will have to be hurt or maimed before the city council rethinks that making more money off the developer was not more important than keeping an existing neighbor hood safe. 3. The schools in our area are already full to capacity. Children from these apartments will want to go to school in this area so the schools will be even further over filled. I pray that for once the city council will listen to the current residents who are sharing their concerns instead of looking at the dollars and perks the developer is offering. I am not of the belief we need to build more housing in Meridian. If homes are not available in Meridian the family can look in surrounding cities for a home. Meridian needs to slow the growth so that the residents of Meridian can also enjoy living here. Kim Nero 3050 S. Denali Way Meridian, ID 83642 408-316-9423 1
