Subject: Pinnacle Subdivision meeting, 7/9
Dear City Clerk,
I am writing this as a follow-up to an email I sent earlier today, which was forwarded to you from the
Mayor’s office. I attended tonight’s meeting virtually, but unfortunately had microphone issues when it
came time for me to talk. What I wanted to mention is that Meridian’s planning department went to
great lengths to put together a future land use map for our city and we’re not even using it as a guide.
Here are a few comparisons of Brighton’s Pinnacle development area at Locust Grove & Lake Hazel:
Current: zoned R-4
Brighton wants: R-8
FLUM: medium density, which is 3-8 dwellings per acre
Current:R-4
Brighton wants: R-15
FLUM: medium high density, which is 8-12 dwellings per acre
One mile down the road at Century Farm there is a large section that is zoned low density on the FLUM
and yet Brighton was allowed to pack homes to at least medium density.
Not Brighton, but Blackrock Subdivision between Eagle & Locust Grove, South of Amity is also zoned low
density, yet it appears there are more homes than 3 per acre there as well.
Are you seeing the pattern? These “guidelines“ the city has come up with, is merely brushed aside
whenever a developer comes by and proposes something wonderful for our community. Why have
guidelines is they’re not being implemented?
Tonight, Brighton gave a showy presentation of a community center area as the highlight, while slipping
in rezoning on the periphery. Why are we bending over backwards? Because they’re providing space for
a future school? Mr. Worden didn’t want to talk about that.
I’m unsure of how the meeting ended since I couldn’t stay on until the end, so the rezoning may have
already passed, but I felt like I needed to add my input.
Thank you, again, for your time,
Julie Edwards
