Julie,
Thank you for your email. As you are referring to a land development application that has been submitted and will likely be before
City Council where I am a tie-breaking vote, I am not able to provide comment on the application or issues surrounding it outside of
the public hearing record. I am copying our City Clerk to this email so that your message and my response can be included in the
record for the application.
Respectfully,
Mayor Robert Simison
City of Meridian

Subject: Pinnacle Subdivision meeting tonight
Dear Mr. Mayor,
I am writing you to voice my opinion about the Pinnacle subdivision proposals at tonight’s meeting because I will be attending it
virtually rather than in person. I want to start by saying there is a reason why people move to this area of town, and that is because
of the peacefulness, the beauty, and solitude of the farmland. We, personally, purchased 12 acres of farmland in the vicinity of this
new subdivision proposed. While I am not against growth in this area, I believe there should be a smarter way in which we grow. The
current zoning for most of that area is, I believe, R-4. It appears that during tonight’s meeting Brighton is proposing to reassign
zoning to R-8 and R-15. I am not opposed to denser homes around the commercial area of the intersection of Locust Grove and Lake
Hazel, howver I am opposed to the R 15 rezoning along Lake Hazel between Locust Grove and Meridian Road. I would also like to see
the zoning within the future plots to remain as R-4 zoning, rather than bumping it up to R-8. I don’t feel that developers should be
able to squeeze as many homes as possible into a subdivision in order for them to profit, while minimizing our quality of life. This
location is neither near Meridian nor Kuna city center, therefore I feel that farmland and open space should be preserved as much as
possible. Our current school system does not have the capacity to allow all of the future kids who will move into the area to attend.
In looking at the school district’s website and their plans for future schools, they estimate, I believe, they would like to add
1
something like eight schools in the next eight years. I understand that Pinnacle is also reserving an area for a future school, but the
difficult part of that is that the community needs to vote in order to get those schools built. I believe that the community, myself
included, is frustrated with the amount of growth happening without infrastructure growing along with it. It seems as if it’s the
classic case of putting the cart before the horse. I would like to see some sort of moratorium put on development until the school
district and the roads have a bit of time to catch up. And while I do understand that growth is happening, and is unavoidable, I don’t
feel that we have to fill every square inch of Meridian with asphalt and homes. This is not why people move here. Please consider a
moratorium for the time being on any development that has not already been approved at this point And take that time to
reevaluate how we want to use our dwindling, remaining open spaces and farmland. I do realize that I am only one person writing
this but I believe there are many who feel the same way I do. Thank you for your time and consideration. I am willing to assist in any
way if petitions are needed to make changes, etc.
Sincerely,
Julie Edwards
