Proposed Modern Craftsman Project
File H2O20-022
Re: Neighbor Response for Hearing File #H2O20-022
To the Members of the Planning and Zoning Commission:
We would like to voice our opposition to the Modern Craftsman Project as it is currently
proposed. Turning the former tree farm nursery with open space into a densely built community
of 195 rental units with little public green space, inadequate ingress and egress, and furthering
the congestion is unthinkable. Particularly during a time when social distancing is recommended.
We moved to Meridian and became residents of SpurWing Heights particularly because the area
provided us with a quality of life that we valued. Specifically, living in a quiet residential area
with single family detached homes, minimal auto traffic, walking streets, and the natural beauty
of open green space such as our walking paths, neighborhood park and pond. However, now the
proposed Modern Craftsman Project File #H2O20-022, jeopardizes what we value most about
our community.
We urge the city of Meridian to focus on thoughtful and livable development by limiting the
Modern Craftsman Project to a community of single-family detached homes consistent with the
surrounding area. The City of Meridian's zoning and planning has already approved and is
currently in construction of significant development. This includes Rock Harbor Church, the
Carriage House at SpurWing, the Fairbourne Subdivision, commercial buildings on the corner of
Chinden at Black Cat and at Hwy 16, in addition to the construction of Linder Plaza and Costco.
All of which brings heavy traffic to the area and further impinges on SpurWing residents' quality
of life.
We implore the City of Meridian to maintain the beauty and livability of our community by
scaling back the Modern Craftsman project and instead approve single-family housing or we fear
the area will be over developed and lose the charm that attracted us to Meridian in the first place.
Thank you,
Edward and Donna Held
