2.Review the Statement of Interest Form for the Public/Private Mural
Commissioners reviewed the Statement of Interest. L. Taylor made several
suggestions for edits including noting that MAC will not be charging the
building owner for the easement and bullet point the requested
information. The subcommittee members addressed confusion between
business owner and building owner, establishing that business owners
may submit a Statement of Interest with approval from the building owner.
The deadline for the applications was set for August 2, the subcommittee
will review the applications the first week of August, and business owners
will be notified by August 28. A. Belnap will determine if City Council needs
to also approve the building selections.
3.Discuss Methods of Distributing the Statement of Interest- see attachment
The Subcommittee considered organizations that could help get the word
out. J. Peters suggested that the subcommittee consider ways that
business owners and artist of diverse backgrounds can be encouraged to
apply. There was some discussion regarding if all murals would be
downtown or across Meridian. A. Belnap noted that there are no location-
specific requirements for the murals. Ultimately, the Chamber of Commerce
To develop, advance and nurture all facets of the arts
to enhance the quality of life for Meridian residents and its visitors
and Meridian Downtown Business Association were identified as the
organizations that would be most helpful in getting word out.
4. Review Traffic Box Selections
A. Belnap showed the subcommittee members the results of their votes for
the traffic box artwork. There was a 5 way tie for the last three traffic box
wraps so a second vote was held. Two subcommittee members voted for
Under the Sea; one vote for Comets Inbound; four votes for The Magic of
Reading, one vote for Sawtooth Lake; three votes for Reflections. The
traffic box wraps for 2020 will be Ensemble Cast, Lima, Under the Sea, The
Magic of Reading, and Reflections.
5. Establish Meeting Time for Future Subcommittee Meeting
The subcommittee decided to set a standard meeting for the third Thursday
of the month at 6:00pm.
Next meeting will be July 16th at 5:00pm.
6. Adjourn
Request for Statements of Interest- Meridian Mural Project
OVERVIEW:
The Meridian Arts Commission (MAC) is seeking Statements of Interest from Meridian
businesses who would be willing to dedicate one exterior building wall for a permanent
mural. It is anticipated that up to three locations may be selected. Following location
selection, the subject matter and design of each mural will be determined by a collaborative
process including MAC, the business owner/manager, and the artist . The project will be
funded by MAC, with an estimated completion date of Spring 2021. The owner of the
building(s) selected for mural installation must negotiate and dedicate a public art easement
to the City of Meridian; a sample easement agreement is available for review upon request.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Businesses wishing to be considered for the Meridian Mural Project must submit a Statement of
Interest that includes the following materials and information.
Name, email address, and phone number of person submitting statement of interest
The name and address of the business
Type of business
Contact information for business owner/manager
Clear/unaltered JPG image of the entire proposed wall/mural location
Description of proposed wall including: height, width, direction it faces (north, south,
east, or west), orientation of wall (front, side, back of building), features (windows,
doors, vents, etc.), composition of wall (brick, metal, wood, concrete), current cover
(paint, siding, stucco), nearby landscaping or vegetation, street(s) from which wall is
visible
A short description of a possible/desired mural theme (e.g., nature, agriculture,

Proposal materials must be received in PDF format via email. Materials submitted will become
public records and not be returned.
DEADLINE:
Applications must be submitted to mac@meridiancity.org by 11:59 p.m. on ______, month/date,
2020.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any selection of a mural location pursuant to a Statement of Interest submitted pursuant to this
request is provisional and shall not constitute a binding offer. Mural installation shall be
conditioned on verification of proper surface and environmental specifications, and successful
negotiation and execution of easement agreement with the owner of the building on which the
mural is to be installed. This project is open to Meridian businesses regardless of owners’ or
occupants’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or disability. Incomplete or late
