Subject: City of Meridian Ordinance No. 20-1881
City Council Members,
On behalf of the Economic Development Committee of the Meridian Chamber of
Commerce, we encourage the City Council of Meridian, ID to approve City Ordinance No.
20-1881 as they are presented on your agenda for the Tuesday, June 2, 2020 meeting.
The Economic Development Committee of the Meridian Chamber of Commerce is made
up of invested business leaders from the Meridian business community. The group
meets on a regular basis to gather information and to advocate for issues of significant
importance to the Chamber membership and the economic wellbeing of our community.
The Union District Urban Renewal Project not only conforms to the City of Meridian’s
Comprehensive Plan, but the project is a great opportunity to continue the
redevelopment of the Old Town Meridian. The project addresses many of the goals for
the city’s comprehensive plan as it relates to Old Town, including infill development,
higher density, develop gathering spaces and civic facilities in Downtown, and continues
to remove the blight from our downtown corridor.
This ordinance will utilize the current laws and tools in place to allow for the much-
needed redevelopment of a section of the downtown Meridian area. When we have
developers and community partners willing to invest in the advancement of the cities
vision and plan, we must do all we can to support these projects.
Respectfully,
Sincerely,
Sean Evans
