Hadlock<bhadlock@paradigmae.com> Subject: RE: 1912192-Gem North Preliminary Landscape Question Hello all, I visited the site at 5390 McDermott Rd on 04-2-2020, here are my observations and thoughts on the matter: • By my count, I came up with a total of 3 5 1"DBH of Viable trees at the site. • This number did not include several of what appeared to be"Volunteer"trees that I observed were actively serving as valuable habitat for Migratory Bird Species that were present at the time of my visit. This point is moot, as the trees will not be considered for mitigation. • The trees I inventoried on the site are as follows; 0 12"DBH Colorado Spruce 0 44"DBH Sycamore 0 43"DBH Sycamore 0 23"DBH Spruce 0 10 (ten)Austrian Pine(26", 16", 18", 18", 23", 13"20",26" 11", 28") 0 30"DBH Green Ash Total= 351"DBH Some questions I have are: 1. Is the large 30"DBH Ash one of the trees being considered for removal for this project? 2. Can some of the trees be retained on the site and protected during the development? (this could count towards the mitigation) 3. Can larger caliper trees be used during replanting to obtain desired mitigation? (i.e. instead of 2" caliper trees, use 2.5"or 3"caliper trees) With all of this being said, if the mitigation number I have provided is a matter of contest, there are a few trees at the site which I am willing to deem inappropriate for mitigation. I will be open for discussion on this point after the questions I have are answered. Thank you all for your time, patience and consideration. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding my observations. Thank! MP Matthew Perkins I City Arborist City of Meridian I Parks and Recreation 33 E. I will be going out to the site today to review the species and health of the trees as well. I look forward to hearing your report and working with you to determine a method of mitigation that works for the City of Meridian and our client! Thank you. I could go out and evaluate the trees on the site and see if there is some potential wiggle room for a waiver for part of it. Thanks! Hadlock <bhadlock&Varadigmae.com> Subject: 1912192-Gem North Preliminary Landscape Question Sonya, I've been working with the landscape architect on their preliminary plan. Brian Bender with Cutting Edge Landscape shared with us the City requirements for in kind caliper replacement. This site was the center of the original overall farming operations and maintained the residential home. As it was their home, there were quite a few large trees around the house while surrounded by empty agricultural fields. In order to meet the City's criteria it would require planting an additional 250-2" caliper trees beyond what would normally be required. Can you share what steps we need to take to alleviate this requirement perhaps through a waiver. Let me know your thoughts. Dawn DAWN FORTUNA, AICP SR.
