Good Afternoon,
I’m writing in reference to the file number listed above regarding the proposed 190+ apartment building
complex at the site of the old Tree Farm Nursery on the southwest corner of Black Cat and Chinden here in
Meridian. I want to express my concern and disapproval of this project. As a resident of Spurwing Heights
subdivision, this proposed development will bring down property values in my subdivision, will increase traffic
tremendously, will add to a crowded area already containing Rock Harbor Church and a new townhouse
community, and will add increased stress in an already over-crowded school system. I vehemently oppose this
complex going into the proposed site.
With the proposed complex set to add as many as 150 school aged children, I’m not sure how the city intends
to zone them logically into existing school boundaries. Spurwing Heights has already been rezoned into Star
elementary and middle, which is about 5-6 times further away than our original school assignment (Willow
Creek/Sawtooth) before moving our kids back into Rocky Mountain...effectively displacing them twice. That is
already a problem for current residents here. If you add potentially 150 more students to that equation, there
is no way we can ever get zoned back into our original school assignments, which we are actively talking to
West Ada about.
My family moved to this development because it’s quiet, well maintained, and has solid property value that
has continued to climb. Adding this proposed apartment complex will negatively impact all of those things. I
am hoping that you will consider this plea, and the plea of many of my neighbors, and vote this down. Find
another use for this parcel of land that will enhance the existing area, not hurt it. Thanks for your
consideration.
Sincerely,
Brian O’Hare
