Ken and Jo, Thank you for including us on your email. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and comments with us. At the City we take public feedback seriously and want you to know that we have received your email and have read your comments. However, because this project is part of an open application City Council should refrain from commenting outside the public hearing. I am copying our City Clerk to this email as it will be included in the public record. Thank you again for contacting up with your concerns. Dear Wendy: My husband and I, Kenneth and Joanne Phillips own and occupy a home in Strada Bellissima and wanted to voice our opinion and opposition of the proposed project of high density, two story apartments generating high traffic. We totally agree with all points given by Larry Chase, the President of the Strada Bellissima Homeowners Association who has contacted you. It is my understanding that you are the planner for JUB Engineers. We are very concerned of the additional traffic it will create; not only on Victory but also caused by drivers using our subdivision roads as a thoroughfare, out of pure frustration of trying to use any means to get to a main road. The City of Meridian will have caused all of these negative situations by approving such a disastrous project as this at the given location with extremely limited Victory Road access. The project (with no direct 1 access to Meridian Road) poses extreme and unnecessary dangers to citizens in this entire area using Victory Road. Are our elected officials lacking common sense? The intersection at Victory Rd and Meridian already is known for its MANY accidents causing serious injuries, and possible fatalities. This proposal uses no common sense for the good of our citizens. Therefore, it seems there is most likely politicians and land developers in collusion who don’t care about the safety of citizens. This is reality and truth or this would not be under consideration. It only balloons further: We have families with children and many who often take walks through Strada Bellissima and Bear Creek Subdivisions which would be at risk in these neighborhoods with frustrated drivers (many younger without the mature driving skills obtained through experience). They just don’t realize the danger speed and erratic driving through residential areas can cause. Lets be sensible here. We, not only in Strada Bellissima, but also the tenants of the proposed high density apartments and any citizens using this route, will be put at risk DAILY with no SAFE access out of our areas to Meridian Rd, the main access to the freeway. Right now the only safe access for our subdivision is the exit via Alfani to Victory Road. With all the housing developments down Victory Road it presently is often difficult to get onto Victory. To alleviate the dangers to citizens driving or walking in this area, Victory Road would need to be revamped with two lanes each way and a street light at Victory and S Alfani Way; or have the entrance and exit of the proposed project at Meridian Highway and reduce the speed limit to 35. I know for a fact with the road funds being used for other expenses caused by the Coronavirus, revamping the canal and Victory, installing a street light at Alfani and Victory is not going to happen. The only solution is to have the access to this project at Meridian Highway and reduce the speed limit to 35. I believe even with that the City is placing citizens at risk. So the solution is to use this property for maybe light commercial use and less traffic flow? An additional 350 cars coming in and out at Victory so close to the Meridian Highway is something only elected officials that are not weighing the safety issues would consider. Its just crazy and scary this project has gotten this far..... I’ll be copying this to as many officials as comes to mind and I’ll keep it incase this project gets pushed through like other ones have with inadequate road planning to compensate for land development. When any of our citizens are injured or killed as a result of this project being approved if it is, I for one will be printing it for the news agencies and reminding officials that they didn’t keep their oaths in working for the good of their communities, including safety of their citizens. Please, respectfully, put politics aside this time and do the right thing by closing the books on this one. Sincerely, Ken and Jo Phillips Residents of Strada Bellisima Subdivision 2
