Alternative Compliance Approval Modification
Dear Ms. Hersh:
On behalf of Idaho State University (ISU), please find the attached revision to our original alternative compliance
application to request landscaping differing from typical requirements found in UDC 11-3B.
As you are aware, site constraints due to the width of required irrigation easements makes strict adherence to
UDC 11-3B infeasible. Originally, we had agreed to include additional evergreen shrubs to the northern boundary
of the site to counterbalance the lack of vegetative cover provided on the west and south boundaries of the site
due to the Nampa Meridian Irrigation District’s requirements. Our alternative compliance request was granted
with that modification.
Since that approval, our client has determined that adding trees in lieu of evergreen shrubs would provide a more
effective and attractive landscape buffer and additional vegetation. As such, we propose to modify our existing
alternative compliance request to substitute the evergreen shrubs with seven (7) Class I trees (Hawthornes, as
depicted in the attached exhibit).
We believe the proposed modification will be an improvement on the previously approved plan and meets the
intent of City Code and the Comprehensive Plan.
