We are applying for a conditional use permit for Meridian Hospitality Group, doing business as Quality Inn and Suites located at 1575 S Meridian Road in Meridian Idaho. The reason for the conditional use permit is for a new sign cabinet to be placed on an existing freestanding sign structure on the property. This is due to a change of brands on the property. The sign as existing, has an overall height of 58' 4" with a 569 square foot sign cabinet. This sign was allowed before code changes. Current code allows for a maximum 40 feet overall height and 150 square feet for the sign cabinet and also a landscape area to meet the size of the sign cabinet. We are requesting to install a new sign cabinet on the existing sign structure that would be 244 square feet and an overall height of 50 feet. This would exceed the current sign allowance but also reduce the existing square footage of the sign significantly. Under current sign code we would be allowed to reface the existing sign and keep the 569 square feet of sign area, but the new sign cabinet is more conducive to the new branding of the property. We are also requesting that no changes be required in the landscape area as any changes would require extensive work to the existing area and parking lot.
