RE: Woodspring Suites | Request for Alternative Compliance

Dear Ryan:
Please find enclosed application materials requesting approval of Alternative Compliance for the
Woodspring Suites project on the property at 1262 S. Rackham Way (APN 6819220210).
Background and site conditions:
An existing City of Meridian water easement exists along the entire northerly perimeter of the subject
property. Per UDC 11-3B-8C-1b, we understand that this perimeter of the site would normally be required
to be planted with one tree per 35 linear feet. However, also per UDC 11-3B-5J trees are not allowed to
be placed within any easement that contains a city water or sewer main. We are therefore requesting
approval of alternative compliance since with the second provision makes it impossible to comply with
the first.
Proposed Alternative Compliance:
In lieu of placing the required trees along the project north perimeter, we recommend instead placing
groupings of additional shrubs as shown on the landscape plan submitted with the CZC application.
Additional shrubs have been provided at a ratio of 4 shrubs per each tree unable to be placed.
